This week was incredibly easy to pick our Jerk of the Week winner. Shortly after I finished posting my jerk for last week (Harvey Weinstein), this week's winner went on record and made some insanely odious remarks. Let's cut to the chase as this week's Jerk of the Week is New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.
Last weekend, Andrew Cuomo said during an interview, "The Republican Party candidates are running against the SAFE Act it was voted for by moderate Republicans who run the Senate! Their problem is not me and the Democrats; their problem is themselves. Who are they? Are they these extreme conservatives who are right-to-life, pro-assault-weapon, anti-gay? Is that who they are? Because if thats who they are and theyre the extreme conservatives, they have no place in the state of New York, because thats not who New Yorkers are."
In a brilliant example of liberal tolerance, Andrew Cuomo shows exactly what progressive liberals think of the rest of us. If you don't agree 100% with every viewpoint that they have, then you're not fit to stay there, comrade. What was even more laughable was that in his state of the state address, he tried to preach diversity and that New York welcomes everybody. The only thing that progressive liberals are tolerant about is whether you prefer to listen to The Grateful Dead or Pfish. From what Cuomo said about pro-life "extremists" not being welcome in New York, I guess all Catholics should pack their bags and go. (As a Roman Catholic himself, shouldn't Cuomo be against abortion or does he just pick and choose what he practices just like so many liberals?)
It's moments such as this that makes me so glad that I live in the South. I have friends who live in New Jersey and Massachusetts and the things they tell me that they have to live with on a daily basis would make me insane. (An example would be having to purchase a shotgun permit in order to own a BB gun in New Jersey). Even more laughable is that New York is showing commercials in my home state of Florida begging businesses to open in New York with its "pro-business atmosphere" and low taxes. Businesses are fleeing New York like rats from a sinking ship. I can't imagine paying a state income tax, then a county tax, and then a city tax on top of everything else.
What underlines Andrew Cuomo's rhetoric is the elitism of the progressive liberal that they know what is best. If you disagree with them, you're evil and unhinged. You can never just be simply wrong. The only time that a person is moderate and non-extremist is only when you're agreeing to whatever demands that the progressives demand. If you surrender to them, then you're reasonable. If you stand up for your principles, then you're an evil tumor that needs to be destroyed. It's sad to think that New York has gone from Lewis Morris, signer of the Declaration of Independence, who famously said when warned of the consequences of signing it, "Damn the consequences. Give me the pen." to the insane bleating of Andrew Cuomo. This is why Andrew Cuomo is our Jerk of the Week.
Only a week?
The word ‘off’ belongs in the title. Not saying where.
Maybe Bloomberg bought those “Republican” SAFE Act votes just like he bought the votes for gay marriage.
I had two conferences in NYC penciled in for attendance this year, but on second thought there is no compelling reason for me to go.
