Obama Declares End To Global Warming Debate….World Laughs Hysterically

I have to shake my head in wonder when I hear this kind of proclamation...especially when it comes from Obama:

But the debate is settled. Climate change is a fact.

Climate change is a fact? No shit Sherlock.

No one disputes that. No one. In fact that is what those of who do not believe in man-made global warming argue, the planet's climate has been changing for tens of thousands of years, long before we were here.

Anthony Watts has a great graph up depicting this very thing:

Now if someone wants to say "man-made climate change is a fact" then they will be called to the carpet because it is nothing of the sort.

Another doozy in that inane muttering of Obama?

"The debate is settled"

Bulls**t.

Once again Watts schools him with some history:

Lord Kelvin In 1898, Kelvin predicted that only 400 years of oxygen supply remained on the planet, due to the rate of burning combustibles.[62][63] In his calculation, Kelvin assumed that photosynthesis was the only source of free oxygen; he did not know all of the components of the oxygen cycle. He could not even have known all of the sources of photosynthesis: for example the cyanobacterium Prochlorococcus—which accounts for more than half of marine photosynthesis—was not discovered until 1986.

Kelvin’s pronouncement, which he believed to be true at the time based on the facts he had at hand, were later disproved by new science and obviously discarded. But, imagine if there were a panic movement then to conserve oxygen, with “oxygen taxes” applied, massive government funded research implemented, and reams of NGO’s feeding on the frenzy demanding a host of new laws and changes in human behavior to avert the crisis.

They’d look pretty stupid to us in the context of science knowledge today, wouldn’t they?

About as stupid as our President does when he utters:

"The debate is settled"

The debate is NEVER settled in science. Good science is all about hypothesizing, discovery, testing, and repeatability. It's all about debating on new and old ideas with an understanding that there is no certainty in science because we are always learning more, discovering new things, and changing the theories to reflect the new evidence.

Yep, settled science, just like Obama’s booming economy, brilliant leadership on the ACA and the most transparent administration in US history.

Odumbo and Pelosi must be related, there seems to some high similarities in their expounding.

Good article, but one demurral. The climate has been changing for millions of years...not tens of thousands.

Now that Obama’s popularity is free falling, and it looks like Democrats might lose their grip on tyranny this next election, there is a desperation to shove every possible leftist insanity down America’s throat, global warming, gun control, amnesty, gay rights.... It seems like the Obamacare debacle, all of the dismay, suffering and disruption it has caused, would make these leftist imbeciles back off. Maybe they would want to take stock in the damage they have caused, and have a little compassion, but no, not them.

And the Left still considers this man an "intellectual"?

John F. Kennedy had a plaque with this quotation on his desk:

"O God, thy sea is so wide, and my boat is so small."

The plaque was given to him by Admiral Hyman Rickover, who gave one like it to the commanding officer of each new Polaris submarine.

From another earlier and certainly monumental figure in America's noble history came this gem:

"The wise know their weakness too well to assume infallibility; and he who knows most, knows best how little he knows." - Thomas Jefferson, The Proceedings of the Government of the United States, in maintaining The Public Right to the Beach of the Missisipi, Adjacent to New-Orleans, Against the Intrustion of Edward Livingston (1812)

Note: This passage is often erroneously quoted as, "He who knows best, knows how little he knows."

There is something refreshing about the willingness to acknowledge finite limits to their own understanding exhibited by these two examples from former Presidents, especially from Jefferson who, at Age 33, authored perhaps the most revolutionary document in the history of nations, a document of which Lincoln said:
"All honor to Jefferson--to the man who, in the concrete pressure of a struggle for national independence by a single people, had the coolness, forecast, and capacity to introduce into a merely revolutionary document, an abstract truth, applicable to all men and all times, and so to embalm it there, that to-day, and in all coming days, it shall be a rebuke and a stumbling-block to the very harbingers of re-appearing tyranny and oppression.
America badly needs another true intellectual giant like Jefferson, who, along with Adams, Washington, Madison and others of their period left a beacon of liberty which remains, in the words of Lincoln, "a rebuke and a stumbling-block to the very harbingers of re-appearing tyranny and oppression."

What’s been disappointing to me as a non-science person is how readily so many educated, trained scientists were willing to jump on-board the “Man-Made Global Warming Express” to achieve “consensus” in exchange for government grants.

OK!! Everybody pay attention!

Lesson for today:

1. The sun is 1,300,000 times as big as the earth.

2. The sun is a ball of fire that controls the climates of all its planets.

3. The earth is one of the sun’s planets.

4. The earth is a speck in comparison to the size of the sun.

5. Inhabitants of the earth are less than specks.

Study Question: How do less-than-specks in congress plan to control the sun?

Obama is a little late to the party. Al Gore said “The debate is over” years ago. And Oprah responded “Really? It’s over?”

...the planet's climate has been changing for tens of thousands of years...interesting PBS program this week on the "bog bodies" which are discovered every now and then in Ireland and Scotland - turns out that something about the acidity of the water in some of these bogs drive out oxygen which in turn slows decay in the bodies which fall or are thrown into them, as well as in the various plant forms which are found in them - and this presents a fairly reliable way of tracking the climate for thousands of years covered by the bogs' existence - in fact in those areas, the climate turned sharply colder at about the time of the beginning of the Iron Age, roughly the birth of Christ, "almost as cold as during the Ice age" - all of which comes down to the fact that any warming we may be experiencing is perhaps nothing than a regression to the mean temperatures the world was experiencing before the frigid downturn....
