It was a bit warmer today, but parts of I-10 in Florida are still closed.
I was watching a show about Hurricane Sandy last night and caught a particularly ignorant line of reasoning that they were stating as fact.
They said that hurricane sandy was much worse due to the effects of climate change and that sea levels had risen a foot and a half OVER THE PAST 200 YEARS.
My first question was what started the sea levels to rise if it wasn’t global warming then? When did it stop being caused by something else and how did you decide it was the result of global warming. I also want to know why we never talk about the eastern seaboard subsidence and erosion I learned about in grade school? Have they magically stopped?
Surely THIS is satire?

How can anyone who’s watched the weather prognosticators try to get even close to what’s happening with the cold and storms this winter believe in anything like global warming??? - We’re watching the Monday weather forecast carefully because we have to drive 25 miles to the doctor for my wife then - just tonight one local Philly TV channel said we could have anything from no snow to up to 3 and a half inches on Monday, depending on the model you watch - guess we’ll not cancel the appointment quite yet - but the warmists can tell us that in fifty years the sea level will rise 6.3 inches and the temperature go up 2.7 degrees - amazing......
But I'm sure that somewhere on the earth there must be a child somewhere that will never see snow. How very sad.
To use the term “climate change” as anything abnormal for earth is about as unscientific as you can get on the matter.
The climate - the term people use when they really mean the weather - is and always was and always has been changing since the earth was created, and the giant forces that determine actual long term changes and their “ups and downs” are larger and more influential in setting up those cycles than any input of man.
The modern human problem is that folks like the global warming alarmists are taking advantage of the short term memory - in the long life of earth - of a mere few human generations who are led to believe, in error, that what they have been accustomed to for their brief lives is, or was, some sort of “norm” and any noticable alteration of that is some sort of “unnatural” occurance.
What earth history shows is for the weather to NOT be changing over the course of time is what would NOT be natural for earth.
Many places on earth that are now desert have the evidence beneath them that they were once as “green” as anywhere else on earth, and other places on earth that are now very warm have evidence beneath and within them that they were once under mile high fields of ice, for centuries and in some places more than once before.
If there is anything to be done about actual “climate change” it is to use our ingenuity to adapt to it and where needed mitigate its affects. That will be the most effective, efficient and legitimate use of our time and resources, and immensely less wasteful to our economic lives and our health.

Our local Gannett newsrag had an editorial page cartoon today depicting a buck-toothed individual (intended, I think, to portray a hayseed from flyover country), who said this: “Since it’s cold outside my door, global warming can’t be happening.” Then in a following panel: “And since it’s flat as far as I can see, the Earth is flat.”
