So what does one do, I am contemplating retiring. I have a 403B. Do I retire and pull all of it out and keep it under my mattress?

Definitely propane. I can live a very warm life on my propane system for at least two years in a “survival” mode. I am on a keep full basis with the local gas company so I never worry about if the SHTF tomorrow. Cooking, hot water and heaters rule!
I firmly believe when people have to work hard to stay warm in the winter, the percentage of makers vs takers up north will improve greatly.

Do you have a non-electric and non-city way to get water? I’d get a large water tank or two before junk silver or propane, myself. Most propane ranges (all???) now are electric dependent for the oven. Really sucks.
How can they make money when ALL economies crash and the value of currency is (fill in the blank but not pretty)?

When I retire in a year or two, I will pull a substantial amount out in cash and silver, yet leave some for investments if still viable.

I could bleat to the government that sound money, total elimination of social spending, selling most federal assets to private actors and state and local governments, low taxes and regulations, and a return to completely free markets in most things would help balance things out. But the communist Democrats and wussy establishment Republicans WILL NOT LISTEN, of course!
Silver won’t keep you warm or heat your food in the wintertime.
I’d keep in mind mobility might be key, food, water, ammo.
