Illegal Immigration and the Catholic Addiction to the Democratic Party

Many Catholics in Chicago are addicted to the Democratic Party the same way a Hollywood actor may be addicted to heroin. For some, this addiction is so strong that it may be said, to turn a phrase, that the Catholic Church in Chicago is the Democratic Party at prayer. Consider the recent statement by Chicago's Francis Cardinal George. Ellyn Fortino reports in Illinois Progress that "Cardinal George, the archbishop of Chicago, joined Former House Speaker Hastert in support of a pathway to citizenship. He also called on the federal government to halt deportations. 'We should end deportations because they break up families, and the family, not the individual, is the basic unit of our society,' George told reporters in remarks after the event, held at DePaul University." Francis Cardinal George is not alone in his support for an end to deportation and for amnesty for illegal aliens. Timothy Cardinal Dolan of New York holds a similar view. Perhaps he too suffers from a Democratic Party addiction. In a letter to Congress, Cardinal Dolan writes, "As we have communicated in the past, we urge you to pass in its final form immigration reform legislation that ... establishes a fair and achievable path to citizenship [amnesty] for the 11 million undocumented in the nation." With all due respect, Cardinal Dolan writes this no doubt knowing that using Leviticus 19:34 to support amnesty for illegal aliens in the United States is to base a policy on a faulty translation. The Hebrew world "lagur" means "to reside temporarily," "to sojourn," or "to stay for a time." It does not mean that an invader must be allowed to stay indefinitely, or be granted citizenship. Illegal is illegal

May we be part of the remnant that resist.

Amen!

Resisting the tyranny of the state in it's assault on our beliefs is getting very difficult. obamacare forces the individual to pay for abortions through their premiums paid to insurers. Same sex marriage is a direct slap to God's moral code and ultimately churches will be forced to perform these ceremonies or lose their tax free status.

I believe that obamacare is a hidden blessing in that it is getting more and more Christians to look to exclusively Christian resources. I ended up joining Medi Share a Christian Healthcare Co-op. After doing so I found that there is also American Christian credit union involved with it. The trend I see is Christians will remove themselves from secular society as much as possible and pool their resources through credit unions and Co-ops in order to avoid participating in our own destruction.

FWIW, I think the Home Schoolers were the first to begin this process of separation.

I've never thought of the Constitution as a Protestant document, but in many ways it is, in its stress on individual responsibility and the rule of law.

I honestly would not see that as distinctively Protestant.

Protestants tend to regard the rule of Popes and priests with suspicion.

Rather then providing them the implicit assent the self-proclaimed infallibility conditionally ascribed to popes and councils. The fact is that both the church and this country began upon principled dissent from those who presumed of themselves above that which is written.

I had it from an original source on my old computer, but that computer died. I looked for it via an image search, and found it buried under pages of more recent stuff.

I was speaking more in terms of the culture at the time of the Founding, which had been going through the sharp conflict of the Reformation. Nevertheless, traces remain in the comparative cultures of the Prot & RC churches in America today.

This is a wee bit earlier:

Mayflower Compact

In the name of God, Amen. We, whose names are underwritten, the loyal subjects of our dread Sovereign Lord King James, by the Grace of God, of Great Britain, France, and Ireland, King, defender of the Faith, etc.

Having undertaken, for the Glory of God, and advancements of the Christian faith and honor of our King and Country, a voyage to plant the first colony in the Northern parts of Virginia, do by these presents, solemnly and mutually, in the presence of God, and one another, covenant and combine ourselves together into a civil body politic; for our better ordering, and preservation and furtherance of the ends aforesaid; and by virtue hereof to enact, constitute, and frame, such just and equal laws, ordinances, acts, constitutions, and offices, from time to time, as shall be thought most meet and convenient for the general good of the colony; unto which we promise all due submission and obedience. In witness whereof we have hereunto subscribed our names at Cape Cod the 11th of November, in the year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord King James, of England, France, and Ireland, the eighteenth, and of Scotland the fifty-fourth, 1620.

Well aware of the Mayflower Compact. Always good to read it again. It’s 150 years earlier than the Revolution and a bit off the point of this thread, however.
