IRS Complains About Low Resources

IRS Shakedown

Do you remember the saying, truth is stranger than fiction? Much of the time, that is really the case and the IRS could be placed on display as a case in point. Remember now, the IRS is the most hated of all government agencies. They seem to be impervious to the pain and suffering of the American citizen, interested only if you are paying every red cent you are supposed to pay in taxes. They are a prime example of a bad debt collector, except they have the full weight and power of the federal government behind them, should they decide you owe them money and they come calling.

The IRS has a nasty habit of counting everything as income. If you travel out-of-town for business, you have the normal expenses. Travel fees, hotels, food, etc., all of which are usually paid for by your company. The IRS counts those expenses as income and you are expected to pay taxes on all income. Remember now, it is only fair and proper that you pay your fair share. Except, some IRS executives haven't been doing that. Yeah, that's something else we all need to remember. What is fair and proper for the American citizen doesn't necessarily apply in the same way to government employees.

Fox News - The latest trouble for the Internal Revenue Service has emerged from a Treasury Inspector General report, which reveals some senior IRS executives should have paid taxes on expenses they ran up for out-of- town travel.

Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, is furious.

"Here were the top people doing what no other citizen can do,” Jordan told Fox. “You underreport income, you don't pay your taxes, you can't get away with it. And yet the very people who run the IRS were doing just that."

The IRS issued a statement saying, "Cutting costs is a top priority, and the IRS has put in place a number of steps to reduce expenses involving executive travel. The IRS agreed with (the Inspector General report’s) recommendations and has put in place new steps to prevent future issues in this area."

Let me help you notice something here. The IRS says they are working to make sure this doesn't happen again. Nothing is mentioned about making the IRS executives pay back taxes on the under reported income. Had this been the case of a normal executive, ie. someone who doesn't work for the government, you can rest assured, the IRS would have taken whatever steps were necessary to make sure the executive paid their fair share of taxes, plus the interest on the taxes they missed the first time they filed.

Now, here is the ironic part of this story, and what I really wanted to focus on. The very next sentence of the Fox News article says it all. I have highlighted it for your reading pleasure.

Meanwhile, the IRS has been complaining about a lack of resources.

The Obama administration sought $13 billion for the 2014 IRS budget, but Congress slashed it to $11.3 billion.

The number of audits, which generate revenue, has dropped, with less than 1% now facing extra scrutiny.

New IRS Commissioner John Koskinen told lawmakers earlier this month the lack of funding is having an impact on service to the taxpayers.

"I can guarantee you, that we would answer more calls, if we had more people. I can guarantee you we don't have the people because we don't have the funding," Koskinen told members of the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Oversight.

That's right, my friends. The IRS is complaining because it is suffering from a lack of resources. The agency that is charged with administering the federal tax laws isn't receiving enough of the revenue they collect as taxes. And because they are charged with being the chief enforcement agency of the wonderful world of ObamaCare, they are stretched thin and can't answer more of your calls. They are short on employees because they are short on funds. Cry me a river, please!

I don't mind saying, I am in a sarcastic mood and have no sympathy for the IRS. Perhaps, if they stopped investigating tax exempt groups for their possible conservative leanings, they would have more employees who had time to do their jobs. You know, to actually take phone calls and answer legitimate questions from the Americans who are doing their best to navigate the complexities that make up our federal tax laws.

This may all sound a little harsh, but I am fresh out of sympathy for a government agency that seems to be focused solely on how they can squeeze every last dime out of every last American they can get their hands on. It is no wonder the IRS is the most hated of all government agencies. It is an honor it richly deserves.

Defund the bastards until they begin to obey the law and the ethics of their positions.

Not one cent for a political-driven IRS!

I cannot believe that was not brought to their attention.
That an attending conventions in exotic locations, giving bonuses for doing their jobs. Undoubtedly there are many more wasted dollars to be found. IRS needs a total makeover.

“”I can guarantee you, that we would answer more calls””

Good grief - you’d think they were in charge of handling emergency services...Good thing they aren’t.

New IRS Commissioner John Koskinen told lawmakers earlier this month the lack of funding is having an impact on service to the taxpayers.

What SERVICE does the IRS provide to the taxpayers? I’m serious. When you call them for advice on filling out your taxes they give you the wrong answer most of the time and your at fault if it is wrong.

Everything they do is un-Constitutional. They have the power to take away your paycheck, put a lien on your property, and make you prove your innocent. That was not what the Founders envisioned. The IRS works for the Government party against the taxpayers, always has and always will. That is why they must be abolished.

After what has come out about the treatment of conservative groups, if your Senator or Congressman is not calling for a shutdown of the IRS he works for the Government party and needs replaced. This will only get worse in the future. The IRS is incapable of reform, do you think it will be a kinder gentler IRS if Hillary wins? Three more years of Obummer and eight years of Hillary the IRS will be handling payrolls for every company and telling you how much money you get to keep.

Land of the Free and Home of the Brave, not if the IRS has their way. You will be slaves to Government, you already work half of the time for them. How brazen do you think they will be if they get away with intimidating conservative groups. The GOPe is fine with it as long as they keep their power, we need Patriots starting today.

Indeed. If this beast is fed, it’ll bite the hand that fed it.
