The one at El Marques in Caracas is one for the history books. One "close up" and one long range view. You need to imagine the 5th Avenue or the Champs Elysées filled up to have a comparison..... Sometime between noon and 1 PM. Never, ever was a Chavez rally be able to come close to half of it.

They need to forget the idea that a “democratic transition” is going to be possible. This crowd should have marched to the government buildings and into them and threw the bums out.

I suspect the military will stage a coup presently. This time, as in Egypt, it will be the right move.

The military is firmly on the side of the Chavistas, they have been given a lot of gravy lately

Yes. But will they fire on their own people? Perhaps, they will.

Maduro’s hard core military support is Cuban. Cuba has much to lose if Maduro falls. The Cubans will fight hard & vicious. As foreign fighters, they have no where to run - they must fight.

A few already have it seems, they don’t seem to mind beating up their own people

Cuban fighters fare very poorly off of their own island.

Always.

Yes. Cuba can't survive for long without Venezuelan oil [though I suspect the Chinese could be convinced to fill the gap in a pinch]. I don't know, of course, that the Venezuelan army will stage a coup.

But I'm not sure, despite the damage that has been done to Venezuela, that Chavez was able to tear down all the Venezuelan social institutions that existed before him.

The Soviets had seventy years and they succeeded in that -- Chavez, a decade and a half. It's probably wishful thinking on my part, but I look to its military to play a deciding role in its future. And, after all, it is the South American way.
