In a blow against reason and common sense, a federal court has ruled that the Live Oak High School in California did not violate the constitutional rights of students when they banned the wearing of the American flag on shirts. The school had told students that wore the shirts on Cinco de Mayo to either remove them or to turn them inside out. The students' families sued over this flagrant suppression of the First Amendment of free speech.
The school said that it banned the American flag t-shirts as there had been fights before on Cinco de Mayo between white students and hispanic students. The school maintains that they did this to prevent any violence from breaking out. This may be true, but it is a sad, sad testament to the health of America today. My parents, who are deceased, would not recognize the country that we have become where displaying the American flag is considered a bad thing and is banned. I'm pretty sure that the school didn't ban the Mexican flag on Cinco de Mayo. Also, Cinco de Mayo is not an American holiday, so why should we get worked up over it?
This is an integral part of the ongoing culture war being waged across America. Liberals despise patriotism and hate the belief that we have in American exceptionalism. In the minds of liberals, America is evil and an oppressor. Showing respect for the nation and the flag is anathema to them. They'll gladly rush out and defend anyone who flies a foreign flag and who doesn't want to integrate into the American melting pot, but they'll immediately decry any American flag waving as racist and jingoistic.
We hear liberals say that we don't want to offend other people by waving the American flag, which makes my head want to explode. We live in America! Where else would you expect to see people waving an American flag? I don't get upset if I go to England and see them waving the Union Jack. If I'm in Tokyo, I don't demand the removal of Japanese flags. You would expect the same courtesy, but liberals believe every other country is far more noble than the USA.
The other thing that drives me crazy with this story is that we're caving in to fear. Live Oak High School said that they did this because they feared fights breaking out. What utter rot. If a fight breaks out, then punish those responsible so it doesn't happen again. Should I not express my freedom of speech lest I fear being attacked by those who disagree with me? Radical Islam is one of the greatest threats facing us today, but I still speak out against it. Are we to live like the people in the Harry Potter books where they wouldn't even mention the name of the villain at all? You cannot limit your freedoms by giving in to the fear that those who stand against you will attack you. That is weakness and weakness only invites attack.
As for Live Oak High School, I wonder if they'll take down the American flag in front of the school so as to prevent future violence. That's the logical extension of the argument that they used to ban American flag t-shirts. Such actions are a disgrace and those people need to be fired.
Surely this will be appealed.
Right because if not then they should ban Mexican flags on shirts every other day of the school year or expect violence by their same reasoning.
Simple. Change the red and white stipes to Rainbow colors and they will assign an entire Mechanized Battalion to escort the child safely to and from the classroom.
And lose. Can’t discriminate about Mexican Indepenence Day. HUH? 100 miles south of the border they don’t even know what you’re talkin’ about. Unless/until you get to the tourist spots like cant-coon or porta-let-vallarta.

Forgot to include ka-whine-zaa in there as “not actual holidays”. Hallmark, jose cuervo and them make a bunch of $$$ off of those.
Had a coupla’ English girls working in our office a few years ago who were bothered by all the American Flags flying everywhere, from houses, stores, car dealers, from cars and car windows, etc.
One of then said you’d never see this in London or anywhere in England like this. I told her I felt sorry for her and her country.
This is why the Mooch-elle beast commented a few years ago while observing an American Flag folding at a funeral, something to the effect that what’s all this fuss over a flag. And she and her illegal alien so-called husband live in Our White House.
The principle is suggesting a Mexican flag be displayed on the main pole, or to simply remove the American flag that day, in an effort to be more sensitive to the Mexican culture....

No flags eh? If I had kids in that school...well, first I’d be moving out of CA but... I’d make sure they wore red, white, and blue every {expletive} day during the “Mexican celebrations” etc.
Surround the school with flags. Are there patriots in the community who can get our flag flying everywhere? Have the kids wear black on the 5th in protest to the death of freedom.
There was a pretty interesting event here on 9/11 when several young people were flying the American flag from their vehicles and several Mexicans began flying the Mexican flag.
They do all sorts of things here in northern CA to kow tow to the Mexican immigrants. Half the school programs are in Spanish, they extend “winter break” so they may return home for a month or more, they celebrate the day of the dead (essentially ancestral worship, try expounding your religious beliefs at school), make a big deal out of stinko, I mean cinco.
Clearly the respect and treatment that many Mexicans expect is NOT reciprocated. Why would someone wearing a US flag on cinco be offensive? Now wearing a French flag might be considered so, but I doubt most people celebrating cinco could tell you what it is about.
Why does everybody forget that Mexico had a compact with the Nazis to take the southwest US when the Nazis crushed us? And there is another thing Mexicans and Nazis have in common, hatred of the French and a love for socialism.
The federal courts have ruled that Mexicans living in California have more rights and are federally protected than native American citizens currently residing there. All this means is that the federal government has handed control of the state of California over to the Mexican government. California is lost territory, lost without a fight. The other three border states are next. Count on it. Better brush up on mexican Spanish fast, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona, because you have a new country to answer to in the near future.

Why is it okay to bring out the National Guard to protect minority rights, but the freedom of speech can be suspended when it is too inconvenient to protect?

The american flag is not important in California with a majority hispanic population and the left fully in charge, Cinco De Mayo is.
Of course the Mexicans will fight as they are engaged in the reconquest of territory that once belonged to them. They want the Mexican flag hoisted over the current landscape.
The Whites, of course, are too spiritually sick to fight for their country and so will meekly acquiesce to the ongoing Conquest. In the next five years-if that long-I expect to see Mexicans,demanding,and obtaining, the "right" to have the Mexican Flag be flown alongside the U.S. Flag over public buildings in California.
