This inspired me to check the life expectancies for the Slavic countries (information taken from the 2012 World Almanac.

Eastern Slavs:

Russia: 59.8 years for men, 73.2 for women
Ukraine: 62.8 men, 74.8 women
Belarus: 65.6 men, 77.2 women

Western Slavs:

Poland: 72.1 men, 80.3 women
Czech Rep.: 73.9 men, 80.7 women
Slovakia: 71.9 men, 79.9 women

South Slavs:

Slovenia: 73.6 men, 81.2 women
Croatia: 72.2 men, 79.6 women
Bosnia: 75.3 men, 82.6 women
Serbia: 71.5 men, 77.3 women
Montenegro: 74.8 men, 80.9 women
Macedonia: 72.6 men, 77.9 women
Bulgaria: 70.0 men, 77.4 women

It is striking that Ukraine's male life expectancy is lower than all the others except Russia. The non-Slavic countries in the region seem to have fairly similar life expectancies to their neighbors, but Moldova's is rather lower than Romania's and more like that of Belarus).

I suspect Vodka is a player in those rates.
