Why many preppers will die

His story is not so unique, but I know much more stories about how folks got killed because they refused to leave their home (and run) when under attack by several people armed with firearms, while they were unarmed, or armed with pistol or knife, clearly outnumbered.

I read every day on web sentences like “having this gun will save you when SHTF” or “with this BOB you can not lose when SHTF”. Of course this is marketing crap from people who want to sell you something.

Please do not get yourself killed, or allow your family to die when SHTF just because you put your “perfect” BOB on, your “zombie survival” rifle in your hands and went out to save the world.

Or to get killed because you “draw line and here you stand your ground” for example when they attack your home or your storage. Do you really want to die just to hold onto things?

How many of use really have an option to “Bug Out.” Aside from fleeing a chemical, nuclear, geologic, weather, or, biological crisis staying put is best for the vast majority of us. Is grandma going to load up her 50lb backpack and march out in the wilderness? If there are armed bands of thugs invading the neighborhood how many of us are in good enough shape and in perfect health to outrun and out hide a band of gangs? I’d say not many?

Sure in an ideal world we all have hidden cabins, impossible to find, fully stocked, yet accessible and close to our homes to bug out too. Bugging in is a much better alternative. Certainly there are times you must leave. But as soon as you “bug out” you become a refugee.

Preparedness is more than just planning to get away when TSHTF. It includes knowing and trusting your neighbors. It means actively preparing your home, neighborhood, and even your entire town. If you’re in a situation where armed gangs are invading homes and killing the occupants they’d be just as happy killing you and robbing you as you’re hiking with your 60lb load. Best to have a defensible space where you have an ample supply of food, water, heat, and medicine.

Many of my neighbors are hard leftists and suffer hardship because of their own bad decisions that I used to try to advise them against, but I have now given up. They would report me in an instant as being prosperous. I know who my closest threats are. After that I would have to play it by ear.

In the real world many of us have loved ones who are infirm or invalids. We can’t bug out. What we can do, though, is put ourselves between those loved ones and the threat to them, and teach that threat a lesson it won’t soon forget.

What in the world is a BOB?

In a similar vein, who the hell is Will and why is everyone constantly being ordered to fire at him?

“The best way to survive is to limit contact with things/people and situations that can kill you. And the best way to do that is not be seen. And the best way to not be seen is don't move around outside of your well camoed/concealed safe zone unless it is absolutely necessary...”

You are the winner according to ME. That is what I was going to write after I read the other comments and there you are writing the same thing.

I am a single older (but you can't tell it) woman with everything I would need in my house and back garden to live well for a very long time. No one here knows what I have - I'm just an “old” lady who lives in a small townhouse. If I left here on foot, the masses would find me even if I have my BOB with me, sure I have a BOB in case I have to leave after a hurricane or tornado that has destroyed my house.

I will move my car so it isn't in front of my house and I have a solar panel to use in my garden to recharge my many batteries so I won't be making any noise. It's almost impossible to get to my small garden since it has high brick walls around it and there is a long line of those gardens on both sides of me and each one has those high brick walls.

One would have to scale about 12 of those tall brick walls to get to mine from one end and from the other end to scale maybe 14-16. I have battery security in the garden to warn me if anyone is back there - likewise the same thing on the one front window and the front door is hardened so it can't be kicked in without staying with the job a long time and that gives me time to prepare my defense in case that front door moves. I have no way out of here except that front door or a ladder dropped down from a window upstairs and that would drop me in the front and that's where the door is. The upstairs, however, does make a very good place to see that door and zero a weapon or two right there.

If everything went to s-—, I think I would have a man here who always carries a 45 with a concealed permit. I can't count on that, but I think that would happen. I have plenty of heavy duty defense weapons and ammo that I don't use since they are heavy. That man could use those. Lighter weight weapons for me are not firecrackers, either, and I have favorite ammo - all hollow points.

There are large houses on streets near me that are easy picking. If I were a zombie, I'd go for the large houses. Now, if I had to, I would leave but that would likely be the end of me unless I have my car and can make it to Humblegunner’s house. We have an agreement, he can come here and I can go there. I'd stack my car with every goodie I could get in it, including the weapons and ammo, and head his direction. I'm sure that would make a feature film ‘cause I'm about as bad a dude as he is - I just don't look it.

Everyone has a special situation based on where one is and what is possible. I have thought out the best I can do and what might happen here to disturb my plan and what I would do in those situations.

It is folly to think nothing will ever happen so do nothing.

can make it to Humblegunner’s house.

We have a river and some canned things.

Plus a bit of moxy and a gun or two.

And a decent position topographically.

“From what I’ve seen & heard most people are not ready to pull the trigger to end another person’s life. We can train all we want, but need to make ourselves mentality ready. Can you make the pistil shot under extreme duress within 21 feet in seconds? My guess is no.”

I don't know if you are talking exclusively about other people or if you might also hesitate so let me explain the facts of life rather than death:
If a man/zombie/bad guy/crazy woman, is trying to get in your house, that person will kill you - you had better assume that right now - and shoot that person immediately upon seeing “it” and if you can shoot through your door (and most doors aren't strong enough to prevent bullets going through), do it before the person gets in.

If you cannot shoot your weapon, get rid of it now because the bad guy will definitely kill you if you have it in your hand and can't use it. A weapon's purpose is to kill something, not to be an ego lifter.

I live well out in the country and there are no large population centers within 50 miles and they aren’t that big.

All of my neighbors that I am aware of are not going to turn into flesh eating zombies unless the situation gets so bad that no one will survive anyway.

There are always a few rats who will seek to steal or even kill but they are not so stupid as to just come and try to take things. I suspect most of that type will be killed off anyway but I guess you never know until it happens.

Water and fuel will never be a problem here and I do agree that one should save as much food as one can reasonably do. Same for ammo.

Along the same lines, The Rifleman Radio Show had an interview with "FerFal" last evening. The show can be replayed here. The show is live every Thursday evening.

In days of government omnipresence, wouldn’t being on another list be a bad thing?

Too late. If you post on FR you are already on a list. One more won’t make a difference.

You might consider joining or organizing a survival group and locating a Bug Out Location as a rally point when the SHTF.
