Preppers’ PING!!
Bob really hates when I put him on. What in the world is a BOB? Big Ornery Beast?
When the Doodoo hits the wind appliance I will be taking care of mine and not giving a dissertation on the particulars.
Anything can happen at any time. Heck, at least one of the Rothschilds (the people who supposedly control the whole world) died in the Nazi concentration camps.
Kart, the simple fact is that most wise people that are preppers are not equipped to “run”. Physical or otherwise. I suggest to those that they have a Scorched earth plan.
And the best way to do that is not be seen.
And the best way to not be seen is don't move around outside of your well camoed/concealed safe zone unless it is absolutely necessary...
I doubt if I could survive on the run. Food, water, and shelter etc is not just stuff it is necessary to survive. If I can’t bug in, I’m probably doomed anyway, so might as well fight for it.
I once attended a briefing on a controversial subject, and the man giving the briefing put an unusual illustration on the overhead projector.
It was of the head of a yawning baboon, showing its very large canine teeth. But on the ends of the upper canines descended two ropes, attached to a swing. On the swing was a young girl, seemingly swinging in and out of the gaping mouth of the yawning baboon.
He explained to us that the yawning baboon represented the government, the media, the public, or a combination of the three. And we, each of us, were the little girl swinging in and out of its mouth.
“As the baboon continues to be bored, it continues to yawn. But if something, anything, gets its attention, it will stop yawning, to your detriment. So if you make yourself known to the baboon, intentionally or otherwise, you are baboon food.”
As a lesson, this definitely applies to *any* SHTF scenario.
So, in order of importance, it is best to:
1) Not be noticed.
2) If noticed, to be uninteresting.
3) If interesting, to be interesting for unimportant reasons.
4) If interesting, for important reasons, to have alliances with those who will protect you.
5) “Time to go, grasshopper.”
The writing is like a foreigner’s.
SHTF = ???
Won’t every prepper die? At some point?
From what I’ve seen & heard most people are not ready to pull the trigger to end another person’s life. Oh we talk a great game, but when push comes to shove not everyone is ready to do this. Even not everyone in the military are ready to do this. We can train all we want, but need to make ourselves mentality ready. Can you make the pistil shot under extreme duress within 21 feet in seconds? My guess is no.
The problem with prepping is that there is no “one size fits all”. I do, however, agree that a well stocked bug out bag is a good idea. Oh yea, and plenty of flashlights and batteries.
Is holding a BOB like choking your chicken?
If Bob had a helicopter I might leave but I can shoot a lot better than I can run. I suppose I would hang in there until help came form next door or when I got too shot up to survive go down in flames. Run? I can hardly walk.
How many of use really have an option to “Bug Out.” Aside from fleeing a chemical, nuclear, geologic, weather, or, biological crisis staying put is best for the vast majority of us. Is grandma going to load up her 50lb backpack and march out in the wilderness? If there are armed bands of thugs invading the neighborhood how many of us are in good enough shape and in perfect health to outrun and out hide a band of gangs? I’d say not many?
Sure in an ideal world we all have hidden cabins, impossible to find, fully stocked, yet accessible and close to our homes to bug out too. Bugging in is a much better alternative. Certainly there are times you must leave. But as soon as you “bug out” you become a refugee.
Preparedness is more than just planning to get away when TSHTF. It includes knowing and trusting your neighbors. It means actively preparing your home, neighborhood, and even your entire town. If you’re in a situation where armed gangs are invading homes and killing the occupants they’d be just as happy killing you and robbing you as you’re hiking with your 60lb load. Best to have a defensible space where you have an ample supply of food, water, heat, and medicine.
In the real world many of us have loved ones who are infirm or invalids. We can’t bug out. What we can do, though, is put ourselves between those loved ones and the threat to them, and teach that threat a lesson it won’t soon forget.
I live well out in the country and there are no large population centers within 50 miles and they aren’t that big.
All of my neighbors that I am aware of are not going to turn into flesh eating zombies unless the situation gets so bad that no one will survive anyway.
There are always a few rats who will seek to steal or even kill but they are not so stupid as to just come and try to take things. I suspect most of that type will be killed off anyway but I guess you never know until it happens.
Water and fuel will never be a problem here and I do agree that one should save as much food as one can reasonably do. Same for ammo.
