The guy’s got a point about our ol’ buddy Nover Grorquist. He deserves at least honorable mention.

My vote goes to obama for jerk of the week Obama is a symptom. Obama isn't the cause of this malaise, and getting rid of Obama won't solve this malaise.
A major contributor to the CAUSE of this malaise is a Republican party that has made functional statist Democrats of Republican voters. When I voted for McCain, for Arnold, and for Meg Whitman, I may have been "Republican" in intention, but in practice, I was a functional Democrat. Everyone here who voted for Romney may have been Republican in intention, but had Romney won, those who voted for him would have reaped the FUNCTIONAL CONSEQUENCES of voting Democrat.
I think rightwingerpatriot is saying that CPAC is continuing that trend of monopolizing the "Republican" label while functionally advancing Democrat policies. That gets my vote for "jerk of the decade."

CPAC, Now .....The ILLINOIS TEA PARTY, have sold their souls to the devil. Il Tea party was bought out and paid off by Gov candidate Bruce Rauner.
Even Conservative organizations are traitors, cannot truct them!

I agree in your proper identification of "jerk of the week," though I like to think that CPAC also is useful to the cause of limited government Christian conservatism.

Every political movement is eventually taken over by leaders who have their own interests. The Tea Party is no different. They were very effective when they were grassroots and ticked off about government growth and spending. I said it then and I said it now - they would be weakened as more and more spokesmen emerged and they fractured over smaller issues.
The sentiment still exists and enough people self-identify as Tea Party folks to still have power, but the brand will lose steam for the same reason the GOP is such a mess. We don’t all agree on everything after all.

Obama isn't the cause of this malaise, and getting rid of Obama won't solve this malaise. Yeah? But it would be a hell of a good place to start.

Even when Republicans lose, they can still write papers, go to cocktail parties, and set themselves up as advisors to the next campaign that comes along. Bingo. The same Republican "consultants" that tell us to abandon social conservatives are the ones that gave us John McCain and who ran Romney's campaign.
If they had any decency, they'd give their conslting fees back. But instead, they just lose more elections.

I disagree. It's a LOUSY place to start. Getting rid of Obama and replacing him with a functional Democrat accomplishes one thing: IT INCREASES THE POWER OF FUNCTIONAL DEMOCRATS, including Republicans who govern as functional Democrats, such as Romney and Schwarzenegger.
A SMART place to start is within the Republican party, culling functional Democrats who register as Republicans.
That is the ONLY way to begin solving this malaise. STOP confusing symptoms for causes, Bullish.

I thank God for your post, thought I was alone in my steadfastness against Rauner. DId anyone on FR who's voting for him look at his campaign contributions to Obama and Rahm Emmanuel as well as countless other Democrats?
Rauner may be running as a Republican, however he's anything but!!
Sadly, everyone running for Governor here in Illinois is either a corrupt career politician, someone faking being a Republican or BOTH!!
I'm staying home, I refuse to participate in this corrupt system in Illinois. I will not allow my vote to legitimize this corrupt, duplicitous political system here. No More.

Excellent post.
The Heritage Foundation has the same problem, and it has had that problem since the Clinton era.
Some of the problem, is the Bush [-bot, -RINO] Dynasty, which shills for high-rolling mid-Eastern magnates who spread money around as a magic carpet for Islam Jihad Lite.
PS. Conservative states are BLUE (for Reagan), not red (for communism).

A SMART place to start is within the Republican party, culling functional Democrats who register as Republicans. The problem is that Republican means functional Democrat; with respect to Republicans:
- They claim to be for government accountability, yet their
opposition
has been nonexistant on:
- Fast & Furious, the easiest treason case in 70 years and easily provable as state-sponsored terrorism.
- The DEA laundering money to the drug cartels.
- The NSA domestic-spying.
- The IRS politically-motivated targeting.
- The arbitrary alteration of law via executive fiat (eg: Affordable Care Act).
- The arbitrary alteration of law via judicial fiat (eg: Affordable Care Act).
- The imposition of laws dangerous to liberty (eg: the NDAA's suspension of Hebeus Corpus and allowance for assassination of citizens).
- The constant/consistent raising of the debt ceiling, selling every taxpayer and their decedents into slavery as it is guaranteed by taxes
which you are forced to pay under penalty of law. (Ironically, they could claim that by their position as
representatives
the incurance of such crushing debt is voluntary and the 13th Amendment therefore does not apply.)
- They claim to be for the second amendment yet they do not fight things like the GCA or NFA, nor other current gun-laws. Instead they buff up their reputation, citing things like Clinton's Assault Weapons Ban
which had a sunset clause and therefore they literally had to do nothing to end it.
- They claim to be against abortion even going so far as to add
no exceptions
to that party-plank.
They do not mean a word of it: they nominated, indeed pushed, Mr. Romney, who is well know as being for abortion in the case of rape, incest, or the mother's health*
.
(* The mother's health is actually code-word for at will
, both politically and legally.) - They claim to be for fiscal responsibility, yet are willing participants in the ever-increasing government spending. Moreover, look at how they react to the idea of auditing the Federal Reserve (which would reveal much).
- They claim to support the Constitution, yet they support a set of policies that has damaged 90% of the Bill of Rights.
- They claim to respect the military yet have commissioned a literally unwinnable* war: The War on Terror.
(* There is no victory condition
, no way to say "we won".)
So, Haven't they proved that they are nothing but talk and riding on "reputation"/"brand recognition"?
Here's a brochure that illustrates what I mean:
