Melowese Richardsons five-year sentence for serial vote fraud was commuted to time served by Hamilton County (Ohio) Prosecutor Joseph Deters. Richardson was convicted of illegally voting multiple times in elections held in 2009, 2010, and 2012.
It was my sense that five years in prison was an excessive punishment for Richardsons crime of over exuberance, Deters contended. A passionate devotion to a candidate or policy shouldnt be used to justify a harsh penalty. After all, who did she hurt? Its not like she was voting for the Communist Party. She voted for President Obama and a slate of Democrats. Shes a supporter of our government, not a malcontent or dissident.
Deters brushed aside Richardsons prior criminal record for intimidation, assault, drunken driving and theft that the sentencing judge cited as support for the five-year term of incarceration as prejudicial. Ms. Richardson had already been punished for these earlier offenses. The implication that she might be a habitual criminal shouldve been weighed against her 14 years of community service as an election poll worker.
In related news, a quick investigative report by a Florida TV station found 100 ineligible persons in two counties had voted numerous times over the past few years. Nonetheless, the Obama Department of Justice is suing to block Governor Rick Scotts efforts to purge voter rolls of those ineligible to cast ballots. At best, the supposed problem of ineligible voters is clearly minor, Attorney General Eric Holder maintained. More fundamentally, though, we challenge the notion that any benefit is attained by blocking these persons from voting. Voting is a human right. No state is justified in denying this right to anyone under any pretext.

Don't ya' just love it . . . add "over exuberance" to a lot of crimes such as serial killing, bank robbing, etc. This thug should serve all the time as an example rather than getting a slap on the wrist.
Good thing I read the red letters before popping off. It’s a good thing that there is so much truth in good satire as it points out problems that need mending.
She should be made an example. Be worried when voters lose confidence in our election process.
Over exuberance? I would call hard core, focused, premeditated fraud committed with great intent on a serial basis. She should spend all five years in prison, and lose the right to vote. Period. And that goes for anyone else they care to prosecute. The problem there’s not enough room in the entire prison system to prosecute this crime that continues unabated in our political system, and dare I say it, primarily on the Democrat side of the aisle, given their highly vocalized squeal every time voter ID laws rear their beautiful head. Lying, hypocritical vipers. A curse on all of you.
From Dems point of view, as long as she’s out in time for November.
Elections coming up
I love reading the serious replies to the satire.
As always John, great article.
BTW you called it Tuesday in your post to me -- MH370 hijacked.
Where’s the satire? This all seems believable John!
I had to check and make sure that this was REALLY satire.
Frankly, I’m a firm believer that anyone charged with voter fraud SHOULD be charged with treason, since they’re attacking the very foundation of a republic.
Voter fraud SHOULD Be a capital crime.
Voter fraud SHOULD Be a capital crime.
I couldn't agree more...have been preaching that for years. You cheat, you hang...leave the rotting carcass on public display for a week or so to spread the message.
The voters in Wood County, northwestern Ohio, were so confident in our election process that 148% of the registered voters voted. And in Cuyahoga County, ugly enough, 108% of the registered voters voted . . . and guess what? . . . they all voted of Obambi . . . what a co-inky-dink!
Ya. It is only a matter of time, then.
