It's that time of the week where we once again look for a person or entity that shows itself to be an utter hypocrite or works to undermine American values. Many of our Jerk of the Week winners have been progressive liberals, but we've also taken aim at Republicans as well who just wish to stay feasting at the establishment trough. Our winner this week though is an institution of higher learning (though such claims could be doubted) who has spit in the face of freedom of speech and has totally caved to radical Islam. This week, Brandeis University rescinded their honorary degree offer to Ayaan Hirsi Ali, an outspoken critic of Islam and the treatment of women within it. That is why Brandeis University is our Jerk of the Week.
Brandeis University was founded in 1948 as a nonsectarian Jewish college that would be "deeply conscious both of the Hebraic tradition of Torah looking upon culture as a birthright, and of the American ideal of an educated democracy." It seemed a sure thing when the university offered an honorary doctorate to Ayaan Hirsi Ali, who has campaigned for years against the brutal treatment of women and homosexuals under Islam. She has also visited Israel and speaks fondly of how that country integrates immigrants, no matter their background. One would think that a Jewish college rewarding a person who crusades against the violence of sharia law would be a no-brainer, but then the ugly reality of how colleges are today reared its head.
Forty professors objected to giving Ayaan Hirsi Ali an honorary degree, and Muslim groups worked to pressure the college to reject the offer as well. The Muslim Students Association (the national student group of Council on American-Islamic Relations, CAIR) mounted a campaign against the degree. The group is also allied with the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), and it must be remembered that the ISNA and CAIR are both unindicted co-conspirators in the Holy Land Foundation terrorist financing case. Let us also not forget that CAIR has ties to the Muslim Brotherhood, a terrorist organization.
Even more laughable is that Brandeis University says that they retracted the award as they state, We respect and appreciate her work to protect and defend the rights of women and girls throughout the world. That said, we cannot overlook certain of her past statements that are inconsistent with Brandeis Universitys core values. For all concerned, we regret that we were not aware of these statements earlier. In the past, the university has honored anti-Semites such as Adrienne Rich, Desmond M. Tutu, and Tony Kushner. Guess their views raised no eyebrows at the school.
The founders of Brandeis University must be spinning in their graves. A Jewish college dedicated to freedom and education refusing to honor a woman who lives under constant threat from Islamic extremists. She wrote the screenplay to Submission, whose director, Theo van Gogh, was murdered by a follower of the "religion of peace." She speaks out against Islam, which openly advocates the killing of Jews, but yet she's labeled intolerant and not in keeping with the university's core values. For all these reasons, Brandeis University is our Jerk of the Week. (I would label them with stronger terms, but I prefer to keep my writing clean of profanity.)
Note: I love how the wikipedia page for Brandeis University makes no mention of this scandal, yet their bio of Ayaan Hirsi Ali is incredibly detailed and goes over every possible public or private problem.
Isn’t there an Islmaic word for useful idiot infidels who work with the Muslims towards their own destruction? If not, there should be.
I know it's only mid-April, but they certainly deserve the Coward of the Month award. And they are in a strong position for Coward of the Year.
