The Easter Miracle of Slovyansk today, Soldiers sent for war end up laying down their weapons, eating with the people and enjoying the spring day in the sun. The Alternative? Bombs and Massacre on an empty stomach. If all armies acted like this, World Peace would be the order of the day.

They’ve got enough tough economic times ahead with the coming US-EU-forced austerity.
They need privately-held small business, not billions in foreign loans from IMF, World Bank, etc., going to state projects.
At least they don’t have their own army attacking them on top of that !
That weakness will not stop the Bloody Red Army. That entire Ukrainian “Army” unit surrendered the firing pins to its sidearms to the Red Army Spetsnaz troops fighting out of uniform!
Will they give the Russians flowers, too?

A Ukrainian soldier interviewed by RIA Novosti in Slavyansk said the troops were told they are being sent against “Russian invaders who have taken the local population hostage and are waging war at us,” and that they must “free Donbas from occupants.”
“This morning, we started our attack, but the picture we saw in Kramatorsk turned out to be completely different. We saw in front of us a crowd of locals, mostly adults, women and men. They explained to us that there are no occupants here and there is no one to fight. Instead, they gave us food and talked to us,” the soldier was quoted as saying.
He added that the troops vowed “not to follow orders to shoot at these people.” Some soldiers chose to take the side of the locals, some decided to stay “neutral.” They are now “waiting what comes next.”

Well, except now that the gas bill isn’t paid and they’re out of money, gas price increases for consumers are on the way this year.

Pictures are identical to the peaceful Maidan of December and early January. Putin is just following up on his words of using civilians as human shields (as per his Crimea speech in March)
The challenge is, how do you flush out the Russian specnaz with minimal civilian losses. You could do it the way Yanukovych did it, start shooting and let God sort them out. Except these are regular soldiers and based on today, are unlikely to open fire on civilians (too bad Berkut had no such qualms).
You can’t really negotiate with these terrorists - Kyiv already had agreed to hold a referendum. Actually, there’s no one in Ukraine for Kyiv to negotiate with, and Putin appears to be aiming to bring the whole country down, not just Donbas.
So, it’s left to the “hearts and minds” of the population and whether they will support the Russian specnaz. The people in the pictures, who came out to impede the Ukrainian forces, are supporting the specnaz. There are many in Donbas who do not, but I doubt RT covered those pro-Ukrainian rallies, right tcrlaf? ;) So they need to make themselves heard even more.
I’m afraid Ukraine would be forced to inflict some civilian casualties, otherwise this Putin’s human shield tactic can be carried all the way to Kyiv and Lviv.

and they were not ordered to shoot their own people.
