. Is it possible that the people in Washington D.C. who sell their influence and the rest of the people in Washington D.C. that are buying that influence dont want to solve the problem? Senators and Representatives often talk about simplifying the tax code but it never happens. The very complexity of the tax code creates an enormous opportunity for special interest lobbyists in Washington. Given the large campaign war chests amassed by incumbents from special interest lobbyists and the companies they represent I think that we can correctly surmise why the tax code exists as it does.

But they throw a bone to the tax peasants and talk about it year in and year out.
There is too much money in the current tax code for the ruling class to let it go. Not just in tax breaks for politically connected wealthy people, but income for people in the lobby industry, in the tax prep industry, the lawyers, not to mention the politicians!
This is why all proposed “campaign finance reforms” are backwards. It is not that we need to get the money out of politics we need to get the politics out of money!
I don’t want it changed either. I want it replaced.
We have the government the Central Oligarchy Party wants to have. During elections, each wing makes noises that appeal to voter turnout of their wing. Afterwards, nothing changes. Don’t kid yourself.
I am very certain the premise of this article is true.
There are way, way too many people in DC and around the country making way, way too much money off the tax code as it exists. Lawyers, tax lawyers, CPAs, bookkeepers, financial advisors, companies like H&R Block in Intuit (TurboTax), the list goes on and on.
Congress talks a good line. But I doubt the tax code will be significantly simplified in our lifetimes.
Corrupt federal lawmakers are laughing all the way to the bank for the following reason. As a consequence of parents not teaching their children about the federal government’s constitutionally limited powers, “special interest lobbyists and the companies they represent” don’t seem to understand that the states have never delegated to the feds, via the Constitution, the specific powers to legislatively address the issues that lobbyists and companies are seeking to control by bribing lawmakers.
