A civilian cargo aircraft crashed at Bagram Air Field near the Afghan capital Kabul on Monday, killing all seven people aboard. The plane came down shortly after take-off and crashed within the boundaries of the US-run airbase, a NATO spokesperson at the base said. The Taliban quickly claimed responsibility for the crash, but the coalition dismissed the claim as "false" in a statement to AP. The cause of the crash is being investigated by emergency crews, but no sign of insurgent activity in the area was spotted at the time, the statement added.

I'm watching the plane on its trajectory on takeoff and all of a sudden the 747 just swerves left rotating at a 90 degree angle and just hits the ground. Very strange to watch.

I’m pretty sure this happened a year ago. I remember watching the video in amazement. Really spooked me.

At the time of the crash the airline had been operating between Camp Bastion and Dubai for a month.[1] The airline said that the accident aircraft had originated in Camp Bastion,[5] and then refueled at Bagram.[6] The aircraft had taken off from Bagram’s runway 03 at 15:30 local time (11:00 UTC) and was climbing through 1,200 feet (370 m) when its nose rose sharply. According to an unconfirmed claim, a crew member was heard on VHF air-band radio reporting that some of the load of five heavy military vehicles in the cargo hold had shifted; the aircraft then stalled and crashed.

Yeah, this is an old video. IIRC the cause was a cargo shift aft, CG went aft, pilots couldn’t get the nose down, stall and crash...

To me it looks like it stalled (aerodynamically,) at which point it was no longer flying.

OMG! That’s awful :-(

The 747 is a very safe aircraft.... must have been some kind of cargo shifting around or something similar. It almost looks like it turned from an aircraft into a non aerodynamic blob that just fell from the sky.

Pretty good description of a stalled airplane I'd wager. If it is not flying, it is a a brick.

didn’t they say a load shift caused this?

The aircraft was owned by National Air Cargo, out of Orlando.
The seven crew that died were all American Citizens.

if you look at it as it climbs its turning up and to the right, and i would guess the load shifted to the tail which kept the nose up.

It was carrying several MRAP vehicles.

One or more broke loose on takeoff, dooming the flight.

Parts of the plane were left on the runway, iirc.

An MRAP weighs many tons.

yeah those are huge heavy suckers. armored personnel anti-mine dealies. you can just see the tail kind of go down and arc right, sweeping under the plane, totally looks like a bunch of weight went back into the tail.

AIRCRAFT LOADMASTER. A job unavailable in the Air Force when I enlisted. Good thinking.

A US Navy C-2A Greyhound suffered a massive cargo shift on aircraft carrier catapault launch in sixties. Straight up to 2000 feet and straight down. Horrific. Video still used to train load masters.

non-aerodynamic blob
You know, the secret service has nicknames for the President, his family, other high-ranking governmental officials so that in times of urgency they can identify specific VIP individuals in a flash. For example, the President as well as all presidents, go by the name of POTUS. President of the United States.

Interesting your description of the 747 in free fall. I understand that the First Lady goes by the acronym, NAB.
