McALESTER, Okla. – A botched execution that used a new drug combination left an Oklahoma inmate writhing and clenching his teeth on the gurney Tuesday, leading prison officials to halt the proceedings before the inmate's eventual death from a heart attack.

Well done. They've taken a simple procedure that simply takes a Bullet and a few seconds into a long drawn out national tragedy. And to think that the last few stays where based on the information on the Drugs and the procedures they would use for their execution. How convenient.

The victim (of the botched execution) took a girl and shot her and then had her buried alive. I didn't get to the part on what they did to her male companion.

Makes me think of the Fat Domino's song "Ain't that a Shame".

Odd that firing squads never had issues.

Today they would be in trouble - no ammo. I bought one box today, .38SPC, 50 rds, made in SOUTH KOREA.

But rope is still available, natural and synthetic.

Am I missing something here? Am I supposed to feel sorry for this waste of existence? Personally I think animals like him should feel as much of their victims pain as possible since the death penalty if it is actually carried out seems to be too peaceful to be much of a deterrent. Maybe if a murderer had to suffer a little hell on earth before their expiration there might be less murders.

“A four-time felon, Lockett, 38, was convicted of shooting 19-year-old Stephanie Neiman with a sawed-off shotgun and watching as two accomplices buried her alive in rural Kay County in 1999 after Neiman and a friend arrived at a home the men were robbing.”

i’m thinking the botched execution made him suffer as his victim suffered.

Botched? The murderer is dead isn’t he? Sounds like a success story to me. And the fact it took longer, good. The victim and her family suffered much, much more.

Watch the family of the murderer use for cruel and inhuman punishment.

Well, now the anti capital punishment lawyers will be trotting out the cruel and unusual punishment argument.
I was waiting for that after the last one in Texas said, “it burns a little” when they started his death drip.

It is nearly impossible to mess up a chemical execution. We have drugs that put you to sleep instantly, anyone who has ever had surgery knows that. Once asleep how hard can t be, we cut people open and they never feel a thing and they can let them die anytime they want.

Good Grief.

They should get the guy that killed Michael Jackson. He seemed pretty good at dosing.

He still had a more peaceful end than his victim did.

And how hard is it to just keep pushing the anesthetic solution into his veins, a gallon if need be, until the heart stops?

I think medical executions are horrible - malpractice and torture rolled into one 20-minute long drama.

And I’m pro-death penalty. I would pull the trigger or drop the blade in a heartbeat - but I would never start an IV or prescribe a medication for the purpose.

Nitrogen Asphyxiation

Method of execution:
Strap the condemned into a chair or gurney
Place a brain wave monitor on the condemned
Place a breathing mask that covers the mouth and nose
Apply 99% Nitrogen at 1.1 atmospheres
Condemned passes out painlessly
Wait till brain waves go flat for 5 min.

You go in for a colonoscopy, the guy touches the IV and you can’t count to 5 before you are out cold enough form them to slit your throat. Politically correct executions are a joke!!!!

Not nearly. He didn't have the horror of being buried alive.

They could do better.

I've had surgery and when they start the drip and *BOOM* I'm out. Don't know a thing until I wake up.

And he wouldn't know a thing until he woke up in hell.

That said, he didn't suffer a fraction of what he put his victim through. Where are the bleeding hearts moaning about HER?

Right.

It's important - no, it's VERY important - that starting the IV, setting up the meds, pushing the propofol, etc., etc., has one and only one purpose.

You know, when Mister Speaker said to King Charles, "I have neither eyes to see, nor tongue to speak, except as it pleases this House"?

That's how I feel about my medical skills. They have one and only one purpose, and it's not killing somebody.

So what?...This is a problem how?

It's a problem because IV techs, pharmacists, nurses and doctors have, and should have, a very high barrier against deploying their particular skill sets for killing people.

I'm very pro-death penalty, I think it's moral and just, but I would never, ever use any skills I've acquired in medical training to kill somebody. Pull the trigger, open the trap door, swing the axe - sure.

It's not surprising to me that medical staff at prisons aren't very good at this.

He didn’t suffer nearly as much as his victim dead, unless they plan on burying him alive?
