N.C. Senate Race: GOP Establishment Working Their Magic

Well, if snatching defeat out of the jaws of victory can be considered working their magic. In a PPP poll released April 29, establishment candidate Thom Tillis leads Tea Party favorite Greg Brannon by a whopping 26 points. Of course a grain of salt may be needed with this current poll. PPP is left leaning, and would love nothing more than for Senator Kay Hagan to hold on to the seat. Especially with the GOP bearing down on Senate control in November.

You may be able to catch a sense of PPP's bias in some of the questioning that was poised to likely GOP primary voters. Like this question for instance (emphasis mine):

Q24 Given the choices of Cliven Bundy, Jeb Bush, Chris Christie, Ted Cruz, Mike Huckabee, Bobby Jindal, Rand Paul, Marco Rubio, and Paul Ryan, who would you most like to see as the GOP candidate for President in 2016? Cliven Bundy................................................... 3% Jeb Bush......................................................... 15% Chris Christie .................................................. 9% Ted Cruz ......................................................... 17% Mike Huckabee ............................................... 19% Bobby Jindal ................................................... 4% Rand Paul ....................................................... 15% Marco Rubio ................................................... 5% Paul Ryan ....................................................... 6% Someone else / Not sure ................................ 9%
Cliven Bundy? Really? I didn't realize he was being talked about as a potential GOP candidate for President in 2016. Who knew?

Anyway, polling bias aside, the GOP establishment is doing everything it can to make sure that their guy avoids a runoff, wins the primary, and then goes on to face Hagan in the fall. Hagan can be considered, like a lot of other Democrat Senators, to be very vulnerable this election year.

But in steps the GOP establishment.

According to RealClearPolitics polling averages, Thom Tillis, the establishment's choice, is the only GOP candidate who is losing to Kay Hagan.

Despite the recent news that Tillis may be pulling away from the pack, Senator Rand Paul (R-KY), has endorsed Greg Brannon and will be campaigning for him in the state leading up to the May 6 voting date. Jeb Bush, just today, endorsed GOP establishment candidate Thom Tillis. If you had any doubts who the establishment candidate or who the Tea Party type candidate was, you shouldn't now.

If the establishment wins this primary and goes on to lose to a very weak Kay Hagan, they'll have no one to blame but themselves. Of course I hold no illusions that they would admit their political blunder if this were to happen. Because you know how the establishment thinks:

They asked if people wanted Cliven Bundy for president? No doubt to smear. What a load of crap.

God I had the GOPe. They could screw up a ball bearing with a toothpick.

And PPP has been the most accurate pollster two cycles running. Until someone is better, it’s my go to pollster.

I think the more important number going into the Tuesday May 6 primary is who is
leading the primary pact and thus most likely to become the General election candidate.
Not how each one matches up against Hagan. One of the pack has got to get through the
primary first to become the Nov. candidate. JMO

Heck, they even asked in the poll if they believed in evolution. What the hell does that have to do with the freaking Senate race?

Cliven Bundy? Really? Why not Aaron Rogers, David Ortiz or LaBron James...
