News broke today that Sprinkles Cupcakes will install New York City's first 24-hour cupcake ATM at its Upper East Side location next week. The unit has a 760 cupcake capacity and can dispense up to four sweet treats at a time. That's pretty coolbut not as cool as a vending machine that makes fresh pizza in under three minutes. Behold Let's Pizza:
Invented by entrepreneur Claudio Torghele, Let's Pizza machines were initially designed and manufactured in Northern Italy. Customers choose between up to four kinds of pies, and watch through windows as the machine adds water to flour, kneads the dough, layers on the sauce, assembles the toppings, and bakes the pizza in an infrared oven in just 2.5 minutes. There are fun windows so customers can watch their pies being made. It can produce 90 to 100 pizzas before it needs to be refilled.
In a piece for The Gate, writer W. Andrew Powell (who shot the video above) said, "In all my travels, I have never seen anything like it. ... While its silly and not exactly the best pizza youll ever eat, its still amazing, and kind of fun." But it still has to be better than the slices sold for $1 at some NYC pizza joints.
The machines are available in Italy and the UK, and, according to a 2012 interview with A1 Concepts' CEO Ronald Rammers in PizzaMarketplace.com, they may soon be making their way to the United States. I'm starting the campaign to get one in the mental_floss offices now.
Needs to be drive-up.
Even if they have some set up for drive-up service you’ll still never understand what the gnome inside is saying to you over the low-quality speaker!

No. And that’s a gal that should probably skip a couple of pizzas...
Ssssshh!! Don’t tell the $15/hr minimum wage crowd.
They won’t like this:

It would be extra cool if it shot the pizza out like a frisbee and you had to catch it.
If you put them in Walmart and they accepted EBT you would make a killing.
Would you buy one?”
If it’s affordable would buy first time just to try it out. After that would depend on the taste and cost.
I can see this being a viable option for a niche market - grab a slice as you are running to catch a plane, school lunch rooms, food courts. I think success will depend on cost, taste and whether machines can continue running without downtime for maintenance.

Agree. McDonalds should find one that makes cheeseburgers.
Lol, I am thinking that if one wree near a Michelle O approved school cafeteria, the vendor would get rich quick.
Make your own pizza without having to stick your arms inside a 600 degree oven? That’s kooky talk!
Family Dollar, Dollar General, Dollar Tree, malls, near the welfare, unemployment and Social Security offices, bingo parlors, colleges, etc., etc....
Can I call in a pizza order?
Are they paid at least $10 per hour, get paid health care and in the union?
Otherwise they might be joining the protests.
If that happened, packs of feral Border Collies would soon learn to congregate nearby.
It won’t spit in your food and it doesn’t care what minimum wage is. :-)
They’d be in competition with the skeet shooters.
