17,000 Marines were surrounded by 120,000 Chinese troops. Their vicious, gut-wrenching breakout from their encirclement, though hardly remembered these days, is one of the most harrowing and heroic tales in U.S. military history.

It left a lasting impact on him.

There is no greater trust between men than that which exists between Marines.

I had two uncles there. Neither knew each other. One was Dad’s younger brother, a Marine Gunny. The other Mom’s BIL, an Air Force FAC.

The story of Chosin is one of the most astounding and outstanding stories of all times. Truly a time when uncommon valor was common.

I’ve tried to read every account of the battle I could and am more humbled and my respect for the Corps increases each time I read more.

We owe it to these men and those like them to never submit to the enemies of liberty that reside...in...this...country.

I agree, it's staggering what they did, almost unimaginable even when you read about it and know they did it.

They get together regularly, although my uncle says that there are fewer and fewer every year. Sometimes a bunch of them talk at educational events. My nephew did a school report and my uncle arranged for several of the Marines to contribute by telling him their stories.

We need to listen to them and remember what happened. Nothing PC about it.

The 31 RCT of the 7th ID was just about wiped out.

OK, it was good but not a great documentary. I have seen and read better accounts. This was more of a personal history and not a military history.

They overdid the not background but intrusive cello or whatever it was constantly playing.

it would seem more like a personal history if they did the interviews. It is good to have those interviews on the record, although it would not be the same as a military documentary.

Can’t remember which of these quotes is my favorite from the Frozen Chosin...

“We’ve been looking for the enemy for some time now. We’ve finally found him. We’re surrounded. That simplifies things.”

“So they’ve got us surrounded, good! Now we can fire in any direction, those bastards won’t get away this time!”

so, I’ll just say. . .”Good night Chesty Puller, where ever you may be.”

Semper Fi

Chosin is the “forgotten victory” and this documentary tells the story in actual combat photos and interviews with survivors.

photos and newsreels of bodies stacked like cordwood, frozen where they died, are gruesome reminders of the unbelieveable hardships that the Americans underwent in temperatures of 40 degrees below zero.

Watch this and call your friends to watch it.
