On May 27, The Daily Beast's Cliff Schecter took a different tact from other gun control proponents, who have simply ignored the fact that Elliot Rodger stabbed and killed as many people as he shot and killed, when he tried to lessen the significance of that fact by saying stabbing victims in other recent mass attacks were not killed.
In other words, the fact that the same number of people died from knife wounds as died from bullet wounds in Santa Barbara means nothing because stabbings do not consistently kill.
Here are Schecter's exact words:
"And although, tragically, three young men were killed after being stabbed by the killer in Santa Barbara, perhaps the clearest comparison between gun violence and knife violence is provided by looking at the attack that occurred at a Chinese school in the Henen Province the very same day as the [heinous crime at Sandy Hook Elementary]. Twenty-three students were attacked in Henen and none died – as opposed to 20 murdered at Sandy Hook Elementary. Or how about the 22 injured in a knife attack at a school in Pittsburgh this past April? Nobody died there either."
Schecter went on to say knives "can't kill as impersonally, as many, as fast or as at far a distance." He said he has never heard of "presidents [being] knifed from book depositories (or grassy knolls, whatever your preference)."
And of course, knives cannot be hated as much as guns because knives don't have a "powerful lobby"(continued)

Thought it was a Machete
In general guns are more effective than knives, especially at any distance. On the other hand, a guy who knows what he is doing just might be more deadly with the right edged weapon up close.
Didn’t Juan Corona kill all his huge number of victims with a machete?
Hoplophobia is a serious disease.
We did police training with a harmless rubber knife with an assailant coming at you from about 20 yards away. It’s amazing how quickly that person can be upon you as you try to stop him with your pistol. Plus knives don’t make any noise to alert other potential victims.
I have always had an innate fear of swords and machetes at least in the couple of times an idiot was playing with them near me.
I wonder what the Boston Bombers used to indiscriminately kill people.
Outlaw guns....they use knives....outlaw knives (practically a reality in UK)....they use homemade bombs. Crazed killers will always find a way.

The usual two-bit sophism from someone whose view of the deaths of young people is calibrated by how far they serve to advance his political agenda. In any other field this sort of monomaniacal obsession would be cause for intervention; in politics he’s just another liberal.
Give me some help here.

I cannot seem to find a straight answer in the press.
There’s a lot of Sandy Hook style confusion going on out there in the “media” right now about this “massacre” but if what I heard today, the three guys who were stabbed were Asians. If these news reports are correct, Schecter sounds like he may be a racist. He also thinks the three people who were stabbed aren’t as dead as those who were shot.
That one kid who went rampant in a school injuring 22 people could have easily killed them. With a knife. I think one or two people died(?)
Shhhhh, now they will come for my pocket knife!
What we need to tell them is simple...Molon Labe! Bring it on, bitches...put your money where your mouths are.

Before the invention of guns, assassins with knives did a pretty good job on Julius Caesar. It had to be done from close up, but they were willing to do so.
Admittedly nowadays guns (or bombs) would be more effective for assassinations and mass murders. If the killers are willing to switch to serial killing, though, the knife could be effective too.
Another thing to bear in mind is that though guns can be effective in committing mass murders, they can also be effective in defending against them. It’s more difficult for a single wacko with a gun to mass-murder people if some of them are armed.
Civil war is the worst of all national diseases. And it’s on the way. Recognize the symptoms, those who wish to survive.
