After less than four months at the Veterans Affairs Department, Sloan D. Gibson suddenly finds himself in charge of fixing the problems that led to the resignation of VA Secretary Eric Shinseki.
"Sloan, I think, would be the first to acknowledge that he's going to have a learning curve that he's got to deal with," President Barack Obama told reporters Friday after announcing that Gibson would replace Shinseki temporarily.
A career banker, Gibson was confirmed by the Senate on Feb. 11 as deputy VA secretary, just weeks before allegations of long waits for doctor's appointments at VA hospitals nationwide led to mounting bipartisan calls by lawmakers and others for Shinseki to resign....

Maybe someday they’ll find someone who actually knows something about running a health care system.
Airborne & Ranger too
Maybe Britain can lend some expertise. :)
...and obama is a Harvard graduate.
I would rather someone with a medical background be appointed.
I don't see how a career banker can fix a medical problem unless it's financial. Then again, healthcare is all about money not health.
Assuming he’s not in it merely for himself but to actually do some good, financial skills would be sorely to ensure good value is being obtained for the money spent.
Isn’t that a job for a treasurer?
It can’t hurt to have two people ensuring the money is spent well.
Shinseki is a west point grad too. I wasn’t ever too impressed with Mr Aluminum Can Troop Carrier.
This is what happens when you have political appointees. His qualifications are not what got him into the position. It’s the size of the Bundle he brought to the fundraiser. My guess is this new ‘west pointer’ career banker brought a Bank Roll to the fundraiser and landed himself a big nice government job. Well now he has a big nice government headache to go along with it.
Lets see what his Big Idea is.
Sloan?
Named after the location of his parents’ flat in London, no doubt...
So is Shinseki.
So was Timothy Leary.
So is Shinseki.
And Lon Horiuchi...
Good choice, actually. If there is anybody who knows about accessing taxpayer dollars, it’s a banker.
Translation: "I'm hiring a greenhorn who will undoubtedly oversee more unnecessary deaths, but his self aggrandizement is more important than the lives of a few more veterans."
