DougRoss:"Well, this is interesting: Looks like Bowe Bergdahl's Father was in contact with Al Qaeda"
Wash Post; YouTube; Blogger "Lady Liberty" via Doug Ross @ Journal / DirectorBlue blogspot ^ | June 7, 2014 | Wash Post; YouTube; Blogger "Lady Liberty" via Doug Ross

Liberty Speaks co-blogger "Lady Liberty" contacted me earlier today with some interesting information.

It would appear that the father of Bowe Bergdahl, the AWOL/deserter swapped for five bloodthirsty terrorist leaders, has been in communication with member(s) of Al Qaeda.

On Google Plus, Robert Bergdahl's contacts include one "Anissa bint Yusuf Zaid Ibn Youssef."

And just who is Anissa? From this link (translated), she would seem to be a 10-year member of an Al Qaeda technology support team.

I thank Allah (Subhana Wa'a Ta'laah) for guiding me on the path of truth, righteousness and justice, which is the Path of Jihad. Agradezdo my beloved brothers and sisters of the Scientific and Technological Committee of Al 'Qaida and TTP, as also to the various centers Translations of the Jihad, Al Al'Qaida General Command and the Taliban who have allowed me to develop and exhibit my work over 10 years.

There's a lot more going on with Robert Bergdahl than what's been marketed in the media. Remember the reason for his beard?

As for the beard, Robert Bergdahl grew it as a way to mark the time since his son was captured in 2009, and also as an attempt to curry favor with his son’s captors, according to the Post account. He studied Pashto, a national language of Afghanistan, in an effort to familiarize himself with the culture of the place where his son was a prisoner.

Based on Bergdahl's YouTube channel, however, there's more than meets the eye.

The age and history of these social networking accounts point to the fact that they are genuine.

From all appearances, the elder Bergdahl: (a) was in contact with a longstanding member of Al Qaeda; and (b) very well could have been a convert to Islam.

It's a pity the NSA -- with its massive surveillance program, unlawfully monitoring the conversations of every American citizen -- didn't let us know these salient details ahead of time.

As for Robert Bergdahl shaving his beard now that his son's been released, well, I wouldn't hold my breath.

This would explain why Robert Bergdahl’s behaviors are consistent with someone who’s been friendly with islamic terrorists.

Agreed.

I were one of the more cautious ones at first regarding Bergdahl’s motives for taking a walk - I’ve commanded in war zones and make no apology for that. I do want to know what in the ever loving glory of all that is holy his officers and Chief thought they were doing letting Bergdahl get to that stage in the first place. It’s not just Bergdahl that needs to look down the barrel of a Court Martial now. His fault, sure, but his CO’s responsibility.

The stuff you are turning up, combined with the total BS spin coming from the mass media and talking heads in the Administration is so far into CYA mode, the narrative has to be false.

Please keep at your invaluable work digging. If you feel like setting up a ping list or have one already, I would appreciate being added.

I can give you a couple of things off the top of my head that have so far stood out to me. As always, we have a slightly different system, so things can work in slightly different ways. We’re not just two countries separated by a common language!

First off, the CO’s job is to be THERE. You are stuck out in the sticks, whoever is in charge has got to be Dad. Lays down the law but also listens without judging ad advises as needed. It seems, from my reading, that whoever was in charge was failing that particular aspect. There were a report a couple of days ago - I think posted by 2ndDivisionVet - that Bergdahl actually asked if taking his gear out would cause problems. That did not raise one massive red flag in his squad leader’s mind? Come on - it were a forward base. At least turn on the damned perimeter sensors!

His squad mates knew he was feeling disaffected. All 6 who have come forward - brave men all - have mentioned that. The 6 who were killed looking for him - we’ll never know, but you know how it is when you gripe. You gripe to everyone. Why could they not have a quiet word with the squad leader or the officers? There is a substantial difference between covering someone’s backside when they report slightly late for duty and not mentioning someone is tipping into the deep end. Again - I lay the blame on the officers for NOT being available.

Other reports say he were quiet and a bit of a loner. You can ignore those. Pretty much everyone goes a bit quiet and wants some privacy. It’s fine, unless it gets obsessive. You just let them get over it in their own time.

Then there is his post. Books and a uniform is a pretty large parcel to send home. Don’t know about your military, but ours are a wee bit obsessive about seeing what you are sending home. No one logged it? No one commented on it? More of a failure by support staff, but still, another failure.

Those are the bits that really stick out to me. Your experience may be different.

I suggested that "contact info" was part of the goods he sent to his parents which included his computer. In one note he said there is stuff in the boxes for you, "Use them".

Then he laid down his arms and uniform and walked off the base.

My pleasure. Something I do feel strongly about.(you may have noticed!)

His reported actions offend me,though I’ll hold off on judgement until I know why. The Administrations actions definitely offend me, since they are lying like a cheap rug. Look to them sequestering him as too mentally and physically ill to testify. They started that narrative, it’s the only one they can realistically run with.

It’s not the only faults here though. I don’t want to paint all officers as bad - most of them I’ve worked with are perpetual motion machines, by the looks of it, and totally awesome (Heck of a lot better than our average officer!). But there are bad ones. Tired ones. Ones who are at the cracking point themselves.

It does not excuse Bergdahl, nor should it. He’s a man and a man makes his own bed and lays on it. But if it is the case that the officers were “asleep at the switch”, it is something that needs be addressed and remedied.

Cheers!

Everytime I read about "known" info, I think of the outing of the CIA dude by the President. I do believe it was absolutely pre-planned and that's the reason he was in Afghanistan...two days before the exchange.

I'm also betting that many were forced to sign "shut your mouth" agreements under the Presidents CIC authority.

Interesting thought.

As a pure hypothetical, with no evidence for it whatsoever, you can fit a lot of information on an SD card. Those fit both snugly and pretty much undetectably under a unit patch or a flag patch - say on a uniform that is being sent home? Or tucked into the spine of a book, perchance?

Just spitballing here. Something that is worth considering and nice catch on it.

See post 27, if you have not already, the last suspicious point.

That detail is logged and confirmed. He sent books, a uniform, possible his lap top (that is grey from what I have seen thus far, but I am inclined to accept it) and a note in the parcel - and NO ONE noticed.

I don’t know how extravagantly careless the US military is, but a parcel that size in any other military on the planet would be opened and checked before being forwarded to it’s destination. It’s normal security. Stops us sending fun stuff home like grenades and “borrowed” weapons.

Some one screwed the pooch. Badly.

There are two basic questions in the Bergdahl case that I want the investigations to answer before I come down hard on anyone involved.

1. What are the circumstances that led to his becoming separated from his unit?
2. How did he comport himself while in the hands of the enemy?

Once findings of facts (not the things we all think we know) are established we will all be in a better position to assess responsibility. Or does that make me a hater?

Makes you and me in total agreement.

He’s a grown man. Those questions are needing answers, sharpish.

I would add one more. I would like an accurate timeline. Considering the amount of paperwork even a small unit does, that should be not impossible to produce.

It seems that this was not a spur of the moment thing - not forgivable, considering the results or his oath to both the USA and the far more important oath to his squad mates. If it were spur of the moment it’s at least sort of understandable. Some guy waking up in the middle of the night and walking out to go home.

Not that he gets a pass on it.

I don’t understand his thought process. Being fed up with his situation, that I get. But leaving the safest place he could be in that area, that I don’t get. I read someplace that he was going to walk to India. I really don’t understand that, if it’s true. But as I said earlier, I’ll wait for the facts to come out before I come to any conclusions.
