In a stirring political upset, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) has been knocked off by College Professor David "Dave" Brat in Virginia's 7th Congressional District Republican Primary, by more than a 10 point margin. Brat, an economics professor at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, VA, scored one of the biggest political upsets of the decade in defeating the GOP's second most powerful member of the House of Representatives.
Virtually unknown outside his district, Brat was massively outspent but enjoyed increasing grassroots support by conservatives and Tea Party movements despite being labeled by a "liberal college professor" by Eric Cantor. Cantor raised $5.4 million during the election cycle, compared to only $206,000 raised by the Dave Brat campaign.
In an interesting twist and public relations coup for Randolph-Macon College, Brat will face Jack Trammell, an assistant professor at the school who teaches a course on disability studies for the schools Sociology Department. Brats ascendency also marks the first time in American history that a sitting House Majority Leader has failed to secure his party's nomination in a primary election.
Recent polls had suggested a Canton landslide, with polls as late as last week showing the House Majority Leader with a 62 percent to 28 percent lead among registered voters. His campaign acknowledged they were shocked by Tuesdays results. Dave Brat garnered 36,110 votes (55.5%) against 28,898 (44.5%) for Eric Cantor.
Cantor is the first House Majority Leader to lose in a primary race.
"This is a miracle from God that just happened," Brat said upon news he had secured the historic victory late Tuesday night. An obviously stunned Cantor replied only with, "Obviously we came up short," who was seeking his eighth term as Representative for the district.
According to Brat's website, he is a principled reformer who upholds the following six-point creed:
Dave Brat, who missed a recent major conservative gathering due to a need to grade final exams for his students, scoffed at Cantor's attempts to paint him as a "liberal college professor." Voters rejected Cantor largely on the subject of immigration reform and the Washington DC status-quo. The recent crisis in Arizona may have loomed large on voters minds who rejected Cantor's positions on the issue, despite the Majority Leader's recent efforts to distance himself from "amnesty."

absolutely right and amen. the glory for this goes totally to the Lord.
Brat's victory will have a huge impact on 'immigration reform' and on crybaby boehner attempting to remain speaker.
Amen.
I like him and his six-point platform. My kind of leader.
Praise the Lord! I can hardly believe this but it is wonderful! Brat sounds like a very solid guy - hope nothing changes in that regard. This certainly put a smile on a lot of faces (but none in the White House).
The GOP-E has had control of the Nations purse strings for over 4 years.
Boehner has been in control as Speaker of the House for over 4 years.
Obama has thus been at the mercy of Boehner and the GOP-E for over 4 years.
Obama thus could not have been as successful as he has been without the full cooperation of the GOP-E and ESPECIALLY Speaker Boehner, Leader Cantor, Whip McCarthy, Economist Ryan, Chairman Mike Rogers, Chairman Issa and loose cannon Peter King of NY.
As long as the Member Republicans in the US House choose to keep in place the above Leadership team, Obama will be able to continue his personal race to the bottom.
Obama, Reid, Holder and Pelosi are just doing what they have been raised up to do: Destroy America, ASAP. They are Public Enemy Number One.
Those who refuse to oppose the destruction of our Republic are Public Enemy Number Two.
BTW, when have - - conservatives - - - , Boehner, Cantor, or Ryan EVER Conserved anything when doing battle with Obama, Reid, Holder or Pelosi? Hmmmmmmmmm?

The only thing that matters in politics is to stay on offense.
The GOP-E has perfected the art of always staying on defense.
Thus, the GOP-E will continue to lose elections by wide margins.
R Sc Rep. Trey Gowdy is an exception to the shunning of Offense by the GOP-E.
Gowdy has the required fire-in-the-belly to attack, Attack, ATTACK!
I stand with Gowdy, Lee and Cruz, who so far have told the truth, and then refused to apologize for telling the TRUTH.
The Republican Party has come a long ways since 2012.
In 2012, then GOP-E candidate Romneycare Romney published a book entitled No Apologies.
Also in 2012 Romneycare Romney told the truth about the 47 % who pay no personal FI Taxes, and thus would not vote for him.
Two weeks later, Romney apologized, saying I was completely wrong.
The GOP-E lost the support of Conservatives when GHW Bush lied to us about Read my lips, NO NEW TAXES!
The GOP-E lost the support of the Hold-your-nose-when-you-vote segment in 2008 by voting for McCain.
The GOP-E revealed itself to be a dedicated loser when they chose to run Romneycare Romney against Obamacare Obama.
Now we have Scandal Coverup Artist Sobber Boehner caving in to Obama, Reid, Holder and Pelosi on a weekly basis.
We need to march into the US House of Representatives and escort out the above mentioned Leaders for a TEA Party reception on the Lawn of the US House.
I have the tar, yall bring the feathers!
Its a good and sound platform.
