Organizers of San Franciscos pride weekend festivities have yanked the welcome mat away from the National Guard, voting to ban the Guard from setting up a booth at the festival.
The decision comes at the same time Pride organizers are allowing a controversial Army private who leaked military secrets to be honorary grand marshal.
The board of the San Francisco LGBT Pride Celebration Committee rejected a request from the Guard to set up an informational booth at Civic Center Plaza during Pride Weekend.
Last year, the National Guard had a booth at Pride Weekend for the first time staffed by gay soldiers following the repeal of the Dont Ask, Dont Tell policy. The Guard was also welcomed at Pride events in Los Angeles and San Diego.
The militarys current ban on transgender service members serving openly, minority recruitment tactics, and sexual assault scandals were factors in the boards decision, Pride Executive Director George Ridgely told LGBT news weekly Bay Area Reporter.
Board President Gary Virginia said in a letter the board was willing to review its decision after this years event, Bay Area Weekly reported.
Critics of the decision see the move as short-sighted. We find this to be really particularly disturbing because only LGBT people in the city of San Francisco are being affected by this, said Fred Schein, president of the San Francisco chapter of the LGBT advocacy group, Log Cabin Republicans. LGBT people around the state have full access and are welcoming these recruiters but San Francisco is being denied that option.
There were some protests against the National Guards presence at last years San Francisco event, which also featured the controversy over Army Pvt. Bradley Manning of Wikileaks fame being selected then dropped as grand marshal of the parade.
Manning, who now goes by the name Chelsea Elizabeth Manning, is again invited to be honorary grand marshal in this years parade.
She was convicted last year of violating the Espionage Act for releasing classified military documents and sentenced to 35 years confinement, with a possible parole release in eight years.
City's grant permission to USE public property (ala permits), not temporarily OWN the property.
Set up the display on a public street.
I can’t imagine being anywhere near a “gay pride weekend” to begin with.
I read yesterday that “Chelsea” Manning had written an editorial for the NY Times. The treacherous little twerp is apparently a hero to some, and this silly thing of a 35 year jail sentence is clearly not standing in the way.
In a way, good. The National Guard shouldn’t even consider being at a sodomite festival.
This is a display of arrogance, not pride. The abnormals OWN San Francisco and its government. Unfortunately that also does bad things to the rest of the country like Nancy Pelosi and her cohorts. If I get a chance I would still visit SF but I won’t spend a dime anywhere in the area. This place of amazing natural beauty is polluted by ugly attitudes to say the very least!
The LAST place we want recruiters is at an Ass Pirate Parade.
Anyone serving in the military that attends something like this should be doubly ashamed of themselves.......
And the problem is what, exactly?
So if this is acceptable, why can’t normal people ban homosexual affiliated groups from our events?
(I know, I know...the double standard thing...)
This is the new obummer military. Ask, tell, sodomize all you want. Notice how the so many general officers have been fired in the last couple of years?
Look at it this way. Obama could have forced the guard to set up a booth.
I’m not exactly sure what to think of this. On one hand hand it is good that fags want nothing to do with the guard. On the other why would the guard want to be there? I have visions the Sgt. manning a booth with pink stripes, a rainbow ribbon and a unicorn unit patch. Fags are not only unfit for the military they are unfit to be humans.
Well, that didn’t last very long. They had to pretend for a minute that they actually tolerated the military, since they had agitated so long about wanting to join.
But now that they got their wish, they can go back to their military-hating selves.
I still want to know who was blackmailing him in the first place to get him to steal the data. Or else what exacly was his motivation.
We know what he did but not why. Just being a freakozoid is not an explanation.
I was also an intelligence analyst (MOS 96B) years before Bradley and at a much higher level (both in rank and in duty stations) but I don’t recall seeing copious high-level diplomatic cables in my work, as it didn’t pertain to me .... compartmentalization and all that. How did it pertain to him down at the 10th Mountain Division? That’s not something a lowly S-2 clerk is usually privy to. Something’s fishy here.
Mark my words.....Obama will grant this perverted traitor a FULL PARDON in the closing days of his Presidency.
Yeah, I don’t see this as a bad thing.
There is nothing prideful about the mental illness of sexual perversion.
Homosexuals and the military should not go together.
Manning is a reminder that having mentally ill people in the military results in bad outcomes. Actively soliciting them? STUPID!
Like giving a sword and a funny hat to a man that believes that he's Napoleon and tell him that if he invades Russia he'll feel better about himself.
Exactly. If someone actually had Napoleon’s brilliance, that would be worthwhile. Homosexuality offers no benefit.
Now that Manning has undergone genital mutilation surgery and is blessed with a lifetime steroid supply, he has escaped the bonds of mental stability to become a spokesman for the rest of the pervert alliance. The male queers, aka coprophiliacs along with their allies in boy molesting, pretty much have their way in San Fransicko.
