Graham to GOP: Don't be 'delusional' about immigration reform
The Hill ^ | 06/15/14 | Alexander Bolton

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) offered a pointed rebuttal Sunday to strategists and pundits who say embracing immigration reform will put GOP incumbents at risk in future primaries.Graham said if Republicans let the status quo stand and hope illegal immigrants leave the United States because of poor conditions, they will obliterate their chances of winning the White House in two years. “If we keep playing this game that self deportation is the only answer for the Republican Party, we will have destroyed our chances in 2016 and dealt a death blow to our party because by 2050 the majority of the country is going to be African American, Hispanic and Asian,” he said on CBS’s “Face the Nation.”

Media pundits and conservative strategists have declared immigration reform in 2014 dead in the wake of House Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s (R-Va.) shocking primary loss last week.

“It was a matter of immigration. It’s ridiculous that people are saying, “Immigration wasn’t an issue.’ It was the main issue in the race,” said William Kristol, the editor of The Weekly Standard, on ABC’s “This Week.”

But Graham, a co-author of comprehensive immigration reform bill that passed the Senate, warned his party not to be “delusional” about the need for the House to act on the issue as well.

“If we become the party of self deportation, if that again is our position in 2016, we’re going to drive a deep wedge between us and Hispanics,” he said on CBS.

In contrast to Cantor, Graham defeated a crowded field of conservative challengers Tuesday and avoided a runoff in South Carolina, a state considered more conservative than Virginia.

Doesn't this queer realize that prior to 1965 we allowed legal immigration based on need, not race?.

We don't need any more free sh*t army members immigrating, legal or otherwise.

Repeal the Immigration Act of 1965 and start bringing in people that will actually be productive.

“Delusional” is thinking that the illegal aliens are going to vote for Republicans. Sorry Bubba, that’s just not going to happen. Freebies, handouts and dependency upon the government trump conservatism and patriotism EVERY TIME. Ask any DemocRAT.

This is all an act. The word is out for the GOPe to fall in line saying the Cantor election is not about amnesty. Seen them all yapping about this on the talk shows today except for Kristol who decided to tell the truth.

If the cost of votes is the loss of American Sovereignty then we don’t deserve it.

Enforce the laws we already have. No support for anything else until you do this...

Do those things and illegal aliens will deport themselves and pay for the trip.

If we sent back 15-20 million of those Spanish speakers then maybe his forecast for 2050 will be a bit off.

The is a perfect example of what is wrong with Washington.

Everything is seen through the prism of politics. They're only concern is who is going to win the election. It's "their job" they are screaming about.

Everybody seems to be starting from the premise that minorities will always be for democrats and against republicans.
What about senators Cruz and Rubio?
How about Governors Martinez, Sandoval, Jindal, Haley?

This clown was quiet as a church mouse before the primary.

Hey, Linda, if amnesty is so great, why didn’t you speak out like this before your primary. Oh that’s right. You didn’t want to get Cantored.

Dear Senator Graham,

Playing racial politics is for racists. You are using people’s race to further your political position. You are no better than Barak Obama, the most divisive president I have seen in my lifetime.

The RINOs make it so hard to choose which of them to allow to be hung out to dry. That is, if the GOP was going to take the senate with a six seat majority, conservatives could sacrifice the seats of McConnell, Graham and some other RINO, just by not voting for them, and letting the Democrats take those seats, and still be in the majority.

Truthfully, they are that bad. Having one of them always standing behind, waiting to plunge the knife into the back of conservatives, is actually far worse than fighting the Democrats. They are like have traitorous generals on a general staff in the middle of the war, who cannot be fired because of their political connections.

So we really need to watch the poll projections. For every two seats in the majority, we can sacrifice one of these SOBs.

Not one of Graham’s six opponents brought up immigration as an issue.

Had they done so, Little Lindsey would be reading his concession speech now.

The lesson really learned in these primaries is that if you make immigration an issue - a main issue - then you will probably win or do a lot better than if you don’ use it.
