Mark Stevens Mayfield, 57, passed away on June 27, 2014. He was a great man, a loving father and husband, a true Southern gentleman, and a gentle human being. A Christian, he is now at rest with his Heavenly Father. Born in 1956 to Charles and Dorothy (Dell) Mayfield in Laurel, Mississippi, he was the first of their three children. Mark spent his very early years growing up in Bay Springs, Mississippi, and in 1962 his family moved to Jackson, Mississippi. He graduated from Jackson Preparatory School and later attended the University of Mississippi and the University of Mississippi School of Law where he earned his Juris Doctorate degree. He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. Upon receiving his law degree in 1981, he came back to Jackson and practiced real estate law with his father for 19 years until his father's death in 2002. Mark met the love of his life, Robin Reeves, at the Mississippi Bar Convention, and they were married in 1982. They are blessed with two sons, Owen and William, both of whom graduated from St. Andrew's Episcopal School and the University of Mississippi. Mark was an active and respected member of First Baptist Church Jackson and was also involved in Bill Boteler's Sunday School class, with community activities and the many interests of his sons. He was an engaged member of the St. Andrew's Episcopal School community. (SNIP)

Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church Jackson on Monday, June 30th, from 4pm to 7pm and on Tuesday, July 1st, at 9am. Wow—sounds like a great guy who had a healthy lifestyle. Doesn’t state his cause of death. Was he a FReeper?
God bless his family and friends.

He was charged with a crime for conspiracy to photograph Sen. Thad Cochran’s wife in a nursing home. Committed suicide.

Sorry, but I have a hard time lionizing this guy. If we’re going to blast Cochran for his campaign’s misdeeds, then how about we be consistent?

Pretty liberal tossing around of terms like "Christian" and "gentleman" for a guy who committed suicide after arranging the surreptitious surveillance of an old lady with dementia.

Those words have specific meanings.

Yes, they sure do, and I'm not seeing either of those terms apply here. It just seems rather hypocritical to pump this guy up like he's some kind of saint, while ignoring the crap he pulled.

As I read his memorial I thought, 'that's a life of purpose; a good life.' Then I read the comments and realized he was caught up in the photo scandal and wondered how an accomplished attorney would get involved in something like this. Then, I juxtaposed the photo scandal with Cochran's race card campaign and thought, 'he should have held on, even if he was involved in the photo scandal, it pales in comparison to what Cochran did.'

Politics are an emotional and sometimes dirty business. I'm sorry for his family.
