[Star Trek's] George Takei Calls Hypocrisy In Hobby Lobby Ruling 'Galling'

Out actor George Takei has criticized a Supreme Court decision declaring that some for-profit companies may block their employees' access to certain birth control methods.

Hobby Lobby challenged the Affordable Care Act's (ACA) requirement that insurance health plans include coverage for FDA-approved contraception, arguing that the law violates the company's religious freedom.

“In this case, the owners happen to be deeply Christian; one wonders whether the case would have come out differently if a Muslim-run chain business attempted to impose Sharia law on its employees,” Takei said in a blog post. “As many have pointed out, Hobby Lobby is the same company that invests in Pfizer and Teva Pharmaceuticals, makers of abortion inducing-drugs and the morning after pill. It also buys most of its inventory from China, where forced abortions are common. The hypocrisy is galling.”

“Hobby Lobby is not a church. It's a business – and a big one at that. Businesses must and should be required to comply with neutrally crafted laws of general applicability. Your boss should not have a say over your healthcare. Once the law starts permitting exceptions based on 'sincerely held religious beliefs' there's no end to the mischief and discrimination that will ensue. Indeed, this is the same logic that certain restaurants and hotels have been trying to deploy to allow proprietors to refuse service to gay couples.”

Takei urged readers to boycott the national craft store chain.

“While we work to overturn this decision by legislation, people of good conscious should BOYCOTT any for-profit business, including Hobby Lobby, which chooses to impose its religious beliefs on its employees. The only way such companies ever learn to treat people with decency and tolerance is to hit them where it counts – in their pocketbooks. I won't be shopping there, and women everywhere should exercise their right of protest and refuse to shop there as well,” Takei said.

So, we're taking moral and legal instruction from a guy who was literally one step in the food chain above Red Shirt Ensign on a television program that lasted all of three seasons, 45 years ago?

How about "So, we're taking moral and legal instruction about our future from a guy who, by choice, cannot procreate and cannot possibly have any standing in a discussion about procreation.

So their refusal to pay for abortions is the same as sharia? Boy is he stupid.

may block their employees' access to certain birth control methods.

How is it blocking their access? They can't get it any other way?

Propaganda is propaganda, and the "news" media sure are good at it.

What I find galling is that one has to claim some religious belied to be free. That can’t last. Once you start dividing freedom you end up with less and less. I’m sure the founding fathers never envisioned a time when the fist amendment had to be invoked to escape such coercive federal dictates. Long live King George!

Yo, Takei, a couple questions...

1st: How has it become to pass we buy so much from China? Could it be policies dictated by your butt-buddy supporters enablers on Capitol Hill?

2nd: Hobby Lobby only refuses to pay directly for its employees' abortifacients. They're not trying to forbid their use by said employees.

3rd: Bugger off!

Your boss should not have a say over your healthcare.

Then your boss shouldn't have to pay for your condoms.

Nothing is blocked. They can open up their own wallets like they did a few months ago.

The Romans had the right idea about actors. They treated them the same as gladiators and prostitutes; merely a form of entertainment. Only this country listens to what actors have to say on some subject. We might as well ask the neighborhood streetwalker what she thinks about QE3.

Speak now while you are able George because under Sharia law your days would be numbered. Remember under Sharia law their is no “going boldly where no man has gone”.

Dear George Takei,

Hobby Lobby is about religious freedom and not about contraception. Our Constitution affirms free exercise of religion and not “free worship”. Free exercise means that a person can live his/her life according to the dictates of his/her faith. Free worship means what goes on behind the doors of a building on worship day. Hobby Lobby’s owners are well within their right of ‘free exercise’ to ask for a readily available abortifacient not to be forced on them because it violates their religious beliefs.

Now, what government is forcing Sharia Law on the health care policies of Hobby Lobby? HL is not forcing anything on their employees. They were asking for a reprieve from a practice that the government was forcing on them. Is ObamaCare forcing Sharia on everyone, and Hobby Lobby is ready to go along with it? I don’t think so.

In short, George, you have it backward. Hobby Lobby is not the one who was doing the forcing.

And, just so you think before you go there. Contraceptives are not illegal now. They are just as legal as ever. They can be bought in multiple places and in many cases over the counter.

What is different is that, because Hobby Lobby has a religious objection to abortion, Hobby Lobby isn’t being forced to provide abortion causing drugs to their employees .

I would bet that the neighborhood streetwalker has a better grasp of economics than most actors/actresses.
