I mmet Mirabel in 2011, four years after she had left her home in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, a city reputed to be the murder capital of the world. She, her sisters and mother were terrorized by an alcoholic father who abused them and stole the earnings from her mothers struggling grocery store to spend on liquor and women. The tipping point came when Mirabel, then 16, confronted her father after a drunken rampage, and he nearly killed her with a machete. When an uncle offered to pay for a smuggler to take Mirabel to the United States, her mother begged her not to go. We all know the stories of women who get raped or die in the desert, Mirabel told me. But I couldnt stay. I had no life there. She told her mother she loved her, boarded a bus with her teenage cousin and headed north, hoping for a better education and a better life in El Norte. But Mirabels safe passage across the U.S. border 15 days later was just the beginning of another ordeal that came with its own terrors. Immediately after entering the United States, she was apprehended by U.S. Border Patrol agents in Texas Rio Grande Valley. They were questioning me, and I was crying, she recalled to me. I said, I cant go back. I was 16, the only under-aged girl and little, but those officers put handcuffs on me just like I was a criminal. After spending a few days in jail, she was taken into federal custody at a shelter in Los Fresnos, Texas, for unaccompanied minors. It was clean, Mirabel says, and had a nice enough living room, but she soon realized she couldnt leave. There was no lifelife ended there, she says.

Couldn't help but think of this: the interviews about "How Life Ended There" with the tens of millions of aborted infants in Heaven. I have no doubt that they have forgiven all who helped murdered them.
Sorry, didn't mean to change the subject - the title of this thing was compelling.
Ah-HAH! They found ONE of the juveniles. I suppose that justifies calling ‘all’ of them ‘children’, huh? /s
Why can’t they seem to produce stats or photos of the numbers of ‘children’ they allege are crossing the border?
Why the big secret? What are they hiding? (rhetorical, of course)
... that's because you ARE a criminal! You broke laws - that's called being a criminal.
those officers put handcuffs on me just like I was a criminal.
She was a criminal.
Very good point. of what you say 99% of this goes unreported in the 3rd countries and to boot same ones will later on have another child.
those “boys” are our future civilian army....
and absolutely no MSM is going to go to Central America and tell us what happened 3 or so months ago to make all these people move north are they?
And they put handcuffs on her.....
As if she had violated a law or something. The nerve.
Voting Democrat, committing crime, and impregnating multiple women who will produce more Democrat voters.
Exactly the reason they're sought after by the Left.
And providing the next democrat meme “The Republican war on children”.
At some point we need to start making the engineers feel some pain.
The most humane thing to do with these kids is to immediately deport them back to their home countries and hand them over to their own governments for care.
Notice how they always seem to select the girls for these stories and not the 17 yo males with tattoos.
We cannot be the orphanage, cop, teacher and Dr. for all the kids in the Third World who are abused and neglected. Right now we need to have high visibility high quantity deportations to send a clear message..stay home!
These IOWs, (ILLEGAL OBAMA WETBACKS), are the Democrat Partys last hope for US voter enrollment dominance from now on - - - .
They do that because their living conditions are so bad that a large number of children will not survive to the age of 5, much less adulthood. Americans and Europeans used to have large families for much the same reason. With economic development, living conditions improve and so does health, so more kids grow up and these people then choose to have fewer children. That is what happened when the countries that are now developed became that way.
About the kids coming up north: they are feeding into the human trafficking underground. The ones that get caught by border control are the lucky ones, if they get deported. Otherwise, they end up in virtual slavery--and it's hard to make the case that being a slave in the US (and being threatened and beaten for failing to work) is better off than being poor in their own country.
Sorry, the fact that this girl’s father was an abusive drunken jerk is in now way a politcal issue and those types of situations are not why there is political asylum.
You can find jerks like that all over the globe, from Lap Land to the South China Sea.
We’ve got them in the US too honey. And unless your dad is dead he’ll probably waltz over the border himself and hunt you all down here.
These people are all so poor, and they have nothing, but they have tens of thousands of dollars, or pesos, or whatever to pay to sneak their kids into the US.
Why isn’t the so called United Nations doing something about these brutal, murderous regimes in El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Ecuador and Mexihole? And why do WE keep sending them foreign aid? This is bull****! The apes down at the UN should at least pass “a resolution” or something!
The illegals will one day elect pols that will demand all guns confiscated. Game over.
I can’t help but wonder how many times the Border Patrol has heard this same story, almost word for word.
And if it originated in the White House
“America’s border disaster”? Somebody has been hittin’ da happy smoke again! Why isn’t it Mexico’s” border disaster. I’ll tell you why. They have laws in Mexico and they aren’t afraid to enforce them. Thanks to the Kenyan, America has become just another lawless banana republic run by a two bit dictator and his commie cohorts.
Gee sounds awful......compared to being hacked with a machete...
Gimmee a break...
If having a bad daddy is the standard, I’m guessing we can expect boatloads of muslims.
That they are 16-17 years old gives me no amount of angst.
At 16 you can become an emancipated minor, go to college, hold a full time job and live on your own.
All of which I did.
You can also be charged, as an adult, for many crimes, which I never committed.
Go find me some 8 year olde who made it here on their own.
I was a 16/17 year old boy myself once and I was plenty of trouble with good parents.
Unless I’m mistaken, these Central American source nations are predominantly Catholic And although some of these countries might not be on the best terms with the Vatican, is not a primary charge of the Church to care for the poor?
Instead of American Bishops exhorting their flock to take care of these kids after they get here in the name of “charity”, perhaps Pope Francis should exert some leverage of the hierarchy in these countries (or their leaders as a Head of State) to bring the focal point of charity where it belongs.
Noe the US taxpayers are supposed to solve the world’s family problems? Who knew?
I know a young lady (non Hispanic) who had the misfortune of getting involved with an undocumented Guatamalan man who has had 8 kids with 4 different women.
He actually had 2 of them preggo at the same time.
and he looks like a frog. I don’t get the appeal.
and no, he does not support any of his kids.
No they found a female who claimed to be only 16 and who had a domestic problem that could have been taken care of in Mexico...
the father could have been arrested..
Whats to stop the “father” from coming to the US himself as an illegal alien and killing her anyway ???
meanwhile shes not a refugee fleeing from violent gangs..
Clearly, she belongs in Chicago, where she'd fit right in.
A lot of kids in the USA live horrendous lives. We really do NOT need to import more troubled teens.
If American families and neighborhoods and schools were in excellent shape, well-funded, loving, effective, perhaps we could afford to bring in other children.
But as it is, no adoption service would OK us to bring up adopted kids. We have so very much work to do to get America back on track.
Good comment. I couldn't afford to send my kids to Central America. If I had any.
Forgot to add:
(my bad...that little /s is hard to see sometimes)
4 grand? I’ve read stories of people having as much as $20,000 and I think to my self “Where and how do ‘’poor’’ people in these crap hole countries get that kind of coin? If if they do get why not open a little bodega or a taxi stand where they live?
Well, if you ever do have any don’t send them to Central America.
I basically made my daughter swear to me she would not go to Mexico. She did recently go (but she is all grown up now) for a bachelorette party (these girls are living high off the hog these days!), but she made the bride swear to her that they would not leave the resort at all. Which she did not, although I think some of them might have.
I used to say: look bad things can happen anywhere, but I just want you to be in a place where if something bad happens the cops will give a damn about it.
Good question. In some cases the money is being sent to them by relatives already working illegally in the US. Other than that, it is quite a mystery how so many thousands could come up with the amounts they apparently pay to the coyotes.
