I was checking out WW2 stats, and came across research on the 30 greatest atrocities of the 20th century.
An estimated 55 million died in WW2.
In addition, 20 million died under Stalin, 40 million under Mao Zedong, 1.65 million under the Cambodian Khmer Rouge, and 400,000 under North Korea. The combined 62 million total tops WW2 by 7 million.
The kicker is that, with the current U.S. population approaching 320 million, that figure of 62 million, if applied to the United States, would mean that 1/5, that is, 20% of us, would have perished!
And yet, American liberals increasingly think that Communism is a really good thing.
History, how to read, how to reason, how to make stuff for yourself....pretty much anything, actually.
The “Little Black Book of Communism” is fascinating to peruse sometimes and really paints the picture of a failed, all encompassing, Death ideology.
As Reagan said it belongs in “The Ash Heap of History”.
IIRC, Historian Robert Conquest estimated that Stalin killed as many as 40 million.
Liberals excoriated him until the fall of the Soviet Union when Russian scholars confirmed his numbers.
And it was disproportionately Democrats that were aborted. And yet, we’re still awash in them.
I’ve had thoughts of creating a pitch for a reality-based TV Show titled something along the lines of “BREAKING LIBERAL”. The show would involve placing young (and perhaps a sprinkling of older) liberal/progressive individuals in situations where the irrationality of their ideas would be exposed to those perceptive and open-minded enough to learn from their experiences and begin evolving their beliefs and behaviors. The cast members would NOT know that this was the direction of the show. Periodically a team of “unseen” judges would vote a cast member off the show based upon how how much they’ve shown a lack of ability to learn from their experiences and continue to cling to their irrational belief systems. At the end of the show, the only remaining cast members would be those who actually learned from their experiences and developed common sense along with conservative beliefs. These surviving cast members would earn cash rewards which would help them move on with constructive lives.
Of course I’m just kidding about this, the various production organizations would NEVER accept such a pitch. Now “BREAKING CONSERVATIVE”? They’d buy that in a heartbeat.
This is what frustrates me about our Media and Academia.
Hitler and the Nazis are rightfully demonized throughout all of history, and rightfully so. You can’t make it through grade school, much less college without hearing about all the atrocities committed by Germany during that period.
However, Nazi atrocities pale in comparison to what Communists have done throughout the 20th century. Its not even a comparison. Yet tyrants like Stalin, Mao, Lenin, Che, Castro, Mugabe, and other of their ilk are given a complete pass by Historians, the Media, and Academia. Communists mass murders are almost completely white washed and revised.
Just look at what’s going on in Ukraine. I haven’t seen a single story touching on the past genocide committed against the people of Ukraine by Russia since Putin decided Russia needed to retake parts of that nation.
Communism is the greatest evil the world has ever known but you wouldn’t know it from listening to most historians and the huge double standards put in place for communist atrocities.
That’s why it was imperative for them to take over schools at every level. It gives them an opportunity to pollute the thinking of other peoples’ children.
No, it’s a great idea. Have a liberal and a conservative team, give them enough seed money for first month’s rent and utilities and see who lasts longer.
