Jesse Ventura, Minnesotas former governor, won his lawsuit against the late Navy SEAL and American Sniper author Chris Kyle on Tuesday. He claimed he was defamed in that book and, while a jury agreed, the vainglorious former wrestler-turned-politician-turned-conspiracy-buff has not exactly comported himself in a fashion that elicits much sympathy.
After having been awarded nearly $2 million to be paid by the late servicemans widow, one might assume that Ventura would simply slip away and enjoy his victory. It seems, however, Venturas narcissism prevented him from taking the tasteful approach here.
In an appearance on CBS News This Morning on Wednesday, Ventura engaged in an amateurish attempt to manipulate your emotions by simply insisting rather forcefully that you should not feel sorry for the women who lost her husband to an assassins bullet who now has to pay millions to a professional self-promoter with a tenuous grasp on reality. Instead, Ventura insisted that he is the victim here.
Taya Kyle had all her attorney fees paid by insurance, Ventura noted. I did not.
Im already damaged, Ventura said when asked if he had hurt his reputation by seeking restitution even after Kyles death. I cant go to a SEAL reunion anymore. That was the one place where I always felt safe. I cant go there anymore without looking over my shoulder now wondering who is going to come after me next.
After seeking sympathy for the consequences of his own actions, Ventura reassured the audience that he has not emerged from this episode unscathed.
Lacking any empathy or courtesy, Ventura was asked what he planned to do with the winnings after noting that they come at the expense of a widow with two children. Pay my lawyers, Ventura said. His response was met with a shocked pause. I didnt have an insurance company paying the freight for me. I had to pay my own.
Finally, Ventura promised the CBS hosts that his crusade to further damage his already shoddy reputation would not end here. Asked if he planned any future legal action around this defamation issue, Ventura promised to visit HarperCollins the publisher of American Sniper presumably to seek further damages over what he alleged and a jury agreed was an unfounded claim.
What a small man.
What a pig. Was Ventura really a SEAL, or a Navy frogman?
Is he basically admitting that Kyle "came after him", which is what he disputed in his law suit?
I liked Jesse and still do.
Ventura needs to shut up and quit trying to defend his stupidity. It only makes him sound stupider.
Birds of a feather? Boa?
Ventura is dead to me.
Everywhere he goes for the rest of his life people should look at him and rub their eyes and pretend to cry!
Ventura is mentally ill and has been for years!
Those were his buddies right? Turns out not and for good reason.
ThankJesse may figure, well, I don’t really know how to make friends, but I sure as hell know how to make enemies. Its a gift.
No sympathy. Hey, Jesse; no women, no kids.
No one feels sorry for you a-hole.
I’ll tell you why I don’t DISlike him instead:
Justice is supposed to be blind. Jesse got his justice despite the fact he was robbed by fate when his detractor was killed.
Jesse didn’t decide the verdict, neither did the judge. A jury decided. That’s the system.
Jesse didn’t sue a widow and her children. He sued the estate of somebody who caused him some sort of pain and damage. The women and the children had nothing to do with it — except they were the holder of the Estate Jesse was suing.
The fact that the estate was insured (apparently) for errors and omissions on the book is irrelevant. Had she had zero $, and no insurance, Jesse still had the right to sue. I must respect that right and that verdict.
I refuse to knowingly be a hypocrite. Some of you gnashed your teethe and pulled your beards when OJ Simpson was found not guilty, but then you cheer and congratulate yourself and the system when Joe Blow Blackguy is executed over the course of 4 hours for a heinous crime he committed and found guilty by a very same jury.
I tell you I like him for the very same reason I told everybody I like Ronald Reagan when those around me were saying horrible things about him, or I tell family at large gatherings I like Sarah Palin when they start in on her in the horrible liberal fashion of today. I tell you for the very same reason I stood up on a bus with 6 or 7 black adults and said I like George W. Bush and I think he’s intelligent and good for the nation — after they were all Jollying and laughing while telling ‘he’s so dumb’ Jokes about George W. Bush.
I coulda sworn I saw some dude on Fox the other day claiming that he witnessed Ventura hit the ground. Was he not in court? and why not?
Jessie sounds pretty lame complaining he can’t go to a SEAL reunion. After his days in wrestling, to use just one person as a reason to think someone might want to take on Jessie the Body on sounds kinda frilly.
I really don’t care if he had “the right” to sue. Heck I could sue anybody if my feelings are hurt. And probably get a judgment. You and I both know that a good lawyer is the key to a winning verdict.
But was it the right thing to do? Was it honorable or was it about the $$$?
But I do know that it's next to impossible to win this kind of case in the USA, so Ventura must've had a good case.
This guy basically sucker punched an older fellow SEAL and went around the country getting laughs about it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I've read, that ruffled some feathers even if (or especially if) Jesse is crazy.
It is not about the punch though. It’s about what was claimed Jesse said that instigated the so-called punch.
The first law of holes or Law of holes refers to a proverb which states,. “If you find yourself in a hole, stop digging.”
“But was it the right thing to do? Was it honorable or was it about the $$$?”
From what I can tell, somebody slandered Jesse Ventura under the pretext to profit from book sales that resulted in increased book sales and rendering Jesse a pariah among’st his peers.
What else is relevant?
He has one son that I know of. The kid is a filmmaker.
What a worthless piece of feces.
Jesse ..if you have been keeping up has become a left wing moonbat...(mostly because he’s a big mouth opportunist and saw that was where the winds were drifting so he could make a better buck)....and he run his mouth a lot ..
.and was running his mouth when he got popped....Jesse is as real as wrestling is
Do you really think this veiled reference to Ventura in the book had anything to do with book sales?
Your original post said you like Jesse. Why?
You’re comparing Chris Kyle to OJ Simpson? Incredible.
Jesse might have won in this court, but just bringing this slimy action — against a man’s widow, fer Godsake! — has doomed him forever in the court of public opinion. As somebody said earlier on the thread, what a small man. Jerk.
None of your post 19 gives any explanation whatsoever why you like Jesse Ventura. As for “the Body” supposedly being hurt by thing saids about him, seems he can dish it out but he can’t take it. Ha has slandered just about everybody from George Bush to the entire country he calls The Fascist States of America. The guy’s a self promoting dirt bag and the lawsuit has nothing to do with that.
How would he pay his Lawyers if he lost the Case?
Color me curious.
Yep, declaring Bankruptcy and stiffing his Lawyers would really help Jesse’s credibility. LOL
Off to bed. Take care my FRiend.
Yep. I have held that opinion of him for a while now.
So we're supposed to applaud every verdict a jury decides because "that's the system"?
Jesse was shown whining on tv last night complaining he can’t go to Seal
Reunions any more as he would most surely get his ass beaten.
I can hope and pray can’t I.
Hopefully a real serious ass whoopin.
He sued an American hero over a pathetically small issue that nobody believes him on anyway.
Jesse isn’t mentioned by name in the book.
Quote from a Fox Article ....
“Legal experts said before the trial Ventura had to clear a high legal bar to win.”
I guess he cleared that “high legal bar”.
He’s a twit, always has been.
The justice system is not justice, most people realize that. One person slips on a wet floor, gets up, walks away, and forgets it. Another falls under the exact same circumstances and collects $100k via the justice system.
People abuse the legal system, just as they abuse anything else. Ventura is a small, small man, who obviously has no shame.
U.S. Courts are not magical impartial justice dispensers. When a decision renders what is just, I praise it. When a decision is unjust, I criticize it.
Jesse was not in that bar. He stopped drinking years before. Jesse had the the right to defend himself. Careful who you pick as a hero in life. Chris may have kill a lot of the enemy but he lied in a book for something to talk about on TV. That is the truth but all the emotion created by the media has clouded thinking. Jesse was right and Chris was wrong.
Almost all such lawsuits are frivolous (even if the greedy parasite wins, it can be frivolous and in this case it was). A lawsuit against an American hero’s widow is particularly disgusting. Anyone who doesn’t find Jesse Ventura revolting just isn’t paying attention.
Wish you were right about just being feces—but even feces can be useful as compost or night soil fertilizer. This worthless conspiracy poison spewing is not worth of even being compared to feces. I’ve know a few real seals over the years and he is not one.
You could extend this to most of the jury in this case as well.
BTW who gets to pick and choose. Who decides if it was a scam or for real?
Jesse Ventura is an anti American 911 conspiratorial scumbag. Anyone who likes him is basically the same kind of subhuman. Look up his quotes. And they aren’t fabricated. They are on video, straight out of his pathetic mouth.
