They mentioned Fort Huachuca which is in Arizona and the story had a dateline of McNeal which is also in Arizona. I agree - not well written.
N.B.: Killer bee honey is tastier than ordinary honey bee honey. To use it in mead will give a good tasting brew, but it would be superb as just honey.
After sealing it up, they didn’t burn it to the ground? The first time someone dies from a sting, the owner should be sued for every dime he ever had.
The Hive respects only one queen per hive; if more than one Queen (ie: new Queen cell being developed )they fight to the death . There is no quarter given.
The Queen's purpose is to lay eggs(new pupae); workers forage for nectar and guard the hive; Drones only purpose is to mate with the Queen in mid-air and make her fertile.
When condtions become difficult and/or cold , the Queen and workers throw the Drones out of the hive.
What makes the Killer Bee different from domestic bees is the phermone (perfume)released when they sting (actually inject stinger,and rip the stinger from their abdomin).
This phermone is 15-20 times more powerfull than domestic bees, and says to any bee flying through this cloud of pheremone: "Danger to the hive","Protect the hive".
Any bee flying thorough this signal (pheremone cloud)attacks and stings, and this ripping causes the bee to eventually die.
The sting/venom of a killer bee is no more dangerous than domestic bees, however, it is the number of stings (created by the phermone cloud) that draws other bees
and the multiple stings/venom that can prove to be fatal.
Hence , the name 'Killer Bee'.
The most productive hives are generally more 'aggressive';
the South American experiment was trying to accomplish prior to the accidental release was a hybrid of conventional bees with the aggressiveness of African bees.
When condtions become difficult and/or cold , the Queen and workers throw the Drones out of the hive.
Sounds like Democrat...
Thank you for the ping.
