There is no appearance tab in my Safari preferences.
They killed off the appearance feature in Safari 2 or 3 years ago. Are you using Version 8.0.3 (10600.3.18)? Your post sent me scurrying and I remembered the old friend Tinkertool, sure enough it let me set the font which I did not know was possible. My freeper page is now happy. I am running the latest version of everything, always have.

I’m a big fan of Pale Moon, which is just a fork of Firefox that’s gutted all the unnecessary crap and fixed most of the memory leaks, something Mozilla refuses to do.
Runs all FF addons as long as you don’t go past version 24.7.1 x86 and don’t let it update.
I run with Adblock Plus, BetterPrivacy, Element Hiding Helper for Adblock Plus, CookieCuller, Flash Video Downloader Youtube HD Download, IE View, Pale Moon Commander, Ref Control, View About, Tab Mix Plus, and Visited. I have mixed feelings about Blur, but use it to stop trackers. It can be annoying, but useful.
Ref Control lets you bypass certain firewalls like the Wall Street Journal firewall. TabMixPlus is a big win for power users. Adbock Plus is indispensable, and it’s Element Hiding Helper lets you easily nuke annoyances on individual web sites. BetterPrivacy let’s you nuke LSO’s. CookieCuller is a great cookie manager; very useful for preserving login cookies but nuking the rest.
Looks like I'm way behind. The screenshot was of Safari 5.1.10 on Mac OS 10.6.8. Probably time to think about a new machine.
On the other hand, the fact that they got rid of the ability to change the font without using Tinkertool or defaults write or writing a user style sheet or similar raises the question of how many other such regressions may exist. Sheesh! Maybe it's time to switch to Linux.
Yep I am running Yosemite 10.10.2 for what I do Tiger is good enough but I have delusions of doing something greater.
I put together a Mac Mini G4 a year or so ago have it running OS X with Classic installed in order to run HyperCard and AppleWorks 5. I started it up and opened a stack and stared at it for a while and shut it down and turned it off, back in the closet with it.
I use EyeTV HD to record and edit TV shows to make them family friendly, browse the web and use mail to get spam and delete it.
That about sums up my use anymore.
Google is even more evil, agreeing to never forget anything on anyone. Even where they anonymize, Google makes it very easy to “undo” for in-house use.
At least Bing does this privacy expectation, right.
Duck, Duck, Go is definitely more secure. Startpage.com and IXQuick.com are ways to anonymously use Google and Bing.
Thanks for the suggestion. I didn’t even have to set up Waterfox. It adopted my Firefox settings and extensions. It is faster.
Yeah, I’m the same - Safari, DuckDuckGo, and AdBlock works just fine for most purposes.
Firefox has taken the “continuous delivery” model to the point of absurdity, putting out public releases so often that the best reason to use it - its extensions - are frequently broken because of the updates. Plus, it’s a complete hog (and I’ve used it on three different OSes, and that’s true for all of them).
Chrome = Google = collecting data on you. No way.
Opera has a good reputation, though I’ve never used it on a Mac. The others I’m unfamiliar with.
You can’t change the font styles, it seems, but under Preferences->Advanced you can enforce a minimum font point size, at least.

Waterfox started back in March 2011 when I was just 16 years old. I had a fascination for the web and wanted to help expand on the ideals of what Mozilla had for a free and open web. So I made Waterfox, a 64-Bit variant of Firefox.

Read up on the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. They're not necessarily "political" in the partisan Dem vs. Rep sense, but rather in the "let's get NGOs to take over everything" sense.
