I have often read keyboard racists claim that black men cannot use firearms for self defense, that the courts will always find against them, no matter what. This is a pernicious lie that is destructive to the rule of law in the United States.
In this story from Florida, a black man defends himself from what appears to be a version of the "knockout game". He is hit in the face, draws his firearm, then shoots another attacker who is charging at him. The video does not show him doing anything to provoke the attack.
His attackers appear to have been drunk. If the races were reversed, I would expect the same result, except that the media would be shouting out headlines about a white man shooting an unarmed black man. From newspress.com:
An investigation showed the shooter, 28-year-old Jehrardd Williams, shot and killed in self-defense as he was being charged by a shirtless man who had been yelling racial slurs at him minutes earlier, according to a Lee County Sheriff's Office report.
Williams shot Dakota Fields, of Fort Myers, three times as the 24-year-old rushed toward him, the report said. Fields died six miles down the road from the restaurant after the SUV he and friends left in struck a car at the foot of the Edison Bridge.
But approximately one third of Florida Stand Your Ground claims in fatal cases have been made by black defendants, and they have used the defense successfully 55 percent of the time, at the same rate as the population at large and at a higher rate than white defendants, according to a Daily Caller analysis of a database maintained by the Tampa Bay Times. Additionally, the majority of victims in Florida Stand Your Ground cases have been white.Black men and women are learning that their right to bear arms for self defense is protected under the shall issue concealed carry laws, just like citizens of any other color. Stand your ground laws mean that you do not have to submit to a beating by white racists any more than white men or women are required by law to submit to a beating by a black mob.
For the most part, white folks don’t idolize thugs.
Hence, no riots.
Thank You sir, for improving our gene pool.
One less thug in the world.
Not that I believe any of us should need permission.
No, it's to be expected when Blacks learn that they won't be held accountable in the same way Whites will.
Well, of COURSE it was justified! “he white!”
= = = = = = = = = = = = =
Interesting wording.
Call the White (idiots) racists and the black (idiots) a mob.
Florida is a CCW and a stand your ground state.
Attack another at your own damned risk.
What happened to “It jus a whoopass.”?
It’s racist! That Law, Don’t you know? ...Jesse Jackson
The original article says he was LEGALLY carrying a .40cal.
Good on him. A thug is a thug, skin color notwithstanding.
I'm confused, who would be the victim?
From the looks of the video, the two parties had some sort of interaction before entering the restaurant...probably in the parking lot.
Just exchanging insults is not the same as instigating something. But if you've got a gun and the other person doesn't, I would think deliberately provoking a confrontation could lead to serious consequences for you if the end result is the other person being shot and killed. However, we still don't know all the details.
Read the report. The white men in this case were being AHs, punched the black guy in the face for no reason, hurled insults and racial epithets, and additionally were drunk. Black guy was minding his own business and brushed off the insults. The deceased individual charged the black guy after the latter demonstrated that he was armed. Witness statements and video evidence concur. No charges against the black guy, one white guy has attained room temp, and charges are pending against at least one other of the white guys. Justice appears to have been served, and I congratulate the black guy for his actions and for his aim.
No problem here. I was just making a general statement. Sometimes it takes a while for all the pertinent info to emerge. Especially in the light of recent national incidents.
