Is Trumpism supplanting Reaganism?
Conservativeintel ^ | Sep 7, 2015 | David Freddoso

can conservatives prevent Trumpism from eclipsing and dismantling the Reagan coalition?

This is going to be a very important question going forward. Democrats are experiencing turmoil in their own primary at the moment — as we have been predicting here, Bernie Sanders is catching fire and Hillary Clinton is drowning in her own sins. The Republicans’ nominee could well be the next president. Will they nominate a movement conservative, or will they nominate Trump?

Article says that Reagan was a proponent of granting amnesty to illegal aliens.

They talk like the Reagan coalition survived past Reagan.

Best article of the summer. This guy gets it.

Located in the Reagan coalition and silent majority have been populists who are not ideologically consistent, and apparently see no need to be logically consistent.

They are often low information and emotional while the ideological are intellectual.

The media and ideological candidates have focused on ideological issues and ignored the fact that most people do not vote based on ideology.

Most people vote based on:
who is their friend and seems friendly.
who is the enemy of my enemy.
who is the alpha male.

Not really.
Cruz is the only real conservative running.
Trump may not be philosophically conservative but he is philosophically American. That’s more than can be said of The Cheap Labor Express candidates

Only Bushism survived after Reagan.
And that has not been a good thing.

Excellent analysis of what is happening.

Pile of steaming blather.

Obviously Fredosso is referring to dismantling the Reagan coalition that elected two Boosches and nominated McCain and Mitt.

What the elites are really afraid of is that Trump is assembling something like the Reagan coalition that crosses party and demographic lines on the issue of the illegal alien inundation.
The citizens want The Cheap Labor Express stopped and see Trump as the right wrench to throw into the wheels.

The country has been beaten up so badly by Democrats, Republicans, "liberals," and "conservatives" that I and millions of others have become slap-happy. The "next Reagan" not being available, we'll settle for the next Zaphod Beeblebrox.

Trump is a throwback to the good old days when America controlled the process and called the shots. We can, and should, get there again.

You have a clear and succinct way of expressing yourself. I must agree with you. Teaganism died with Reagan. I’m ready for 8 years of Trumpology.

If Trump is nominated he won’t be nominated as a conservative (because he isn’t) but out of desperation for someone who can fight. Cruz is the only candidate close to Reagan but he isn’t polling well. It seems many prefer the mouth over the brain

IIRC, Reagan got conned into it, with many promises that were never kept.

We all know how that goes, don’t we?

Also, this country is not the same country as it was under Reagan. Demographics is Destiny.

Trumpism really has nothing to do with Trump. What is happening is one guy is saying “I'm not going to take any more nonsense from the powers that be because they are impotent and stupid” and a bunch of guys in khaki pants trying to nice the enemy to death.

The American people are so fed up they are willing to go with the guy who looks like he's going to fight — They haven't looked into policy just who has the most fire in the belly
