VIDEO AT LINK. In some ways, it's better than the original, although some will disagree because it doesn't matches Gerry Rafferty's soaring voice.

Or Raphael Ravenscroft’s soaring saxophone.

I dig it. Foo Fighters rock but the original is just better for me brings up some memories.

I love the Foo Fighters, but this version has nothing on the original.

I also like Blue Grass, but this also was a fail compared to the original:

That is nowhere near even approaching Ratterty’s version.

I really think it’s a wash. The Foo Fighters had better sound, but the vocals belong to Rafferty.

The sax on Baker Street might be the best use of sax ever, or at least in pop/rock music. To replace that with fuzzy guitar is just not right.

...but I also have strange tastes. I think the following versions are better (or at least as good) as the originals:

You Really Got me

I Can't Get No Satisfaction

Ring of Fire

Lay Lady Lay

Gotta Get Out of This Place

Pipeline

Yup. The sax on the original Baker Street gives it a soulful and somewhat wistful quality, which fits the lyrics beautifully.

Although it seems to be hitting the beat, the sax at the beginning seems like it is dragging and late.
The singer isn’t loud enough or the band is too loud.
I don’t believe the song was written to be played like that, but I just like Gerry Rafferty .

After reading another reply I listened again and it’s not sax.Don’t know why I thought that except I was expecting sax.It still drags though.

Cover songs are not about improving upon the original but about an artist taking a great song and adapting it to their own unique style.

I'm a big fan of cover songs. Not the sound-alike cover songs that you find on K-tel records (remember those?) but those that bring something new to the original. Especially when the genre is changed (i.e. from rock to country) or when the gender of the lead singer is switched up. A good example is Melissa Quade's version of Pink Floyd's Time.

For those who are really into cover songs, I recommend the podcast Coverville by Brian Ibbott. He's got over 1,000 episodes online - nearly 10,000 hours of great covers! And he hardly ever repeats them.

I haven’t found a real bagpipe version yet.

Nothing beats the original...
Ahh...summer of Seventy Eight. This song brings back fond memories.

Rafferty’s arrangements are nothing short of amazing. Completely different vibe. Smooth vocals, sax, everything blended beautifully but not over-produced.

I really like Foo Fighters but I wish they hadn’t done this cover.

Your Ring of Fire is most excellent.
