She won it at bingo, a couple of years ago. Sometime, between the time she got it and now, somebody put a password on it. We don’t know who and don’t know what the password is but it is there.

That’s the whole story and as simple as it gets.

If she put a password on by accident it’s probably something easy for her to remember.

No idea how to help, but the image of your Mom winning an ipad at bingo made me smile.

No, she didn’t put a password on it. The best we could figure out was that it might have been my nephew, who is a little bit disabled. He doesn’t remember doing it though.

My mom is 80 years old and hasn’t touched anything technically oriented. That’s part of the trouble. I don’t use Apple products, so this new to me.

Your mother is a big fantasy football player too?

Final Fantasy is an RPG video game. It’s one of the best video game series of all time. ITunes has the first 7 games available now, possibly 8.

Just be thankful that she won’t have it held up to her face everything time you want to talk to her.

So your 80 year old mother who now has an interest in learning
the iPad is also interested in playing the video game Final Fantasy.

You got some real holes in your story.

But some of the post here should help you reset “you mothers iPad”.
Keep us informed on how your 80 year old mother likes Final Fantasy.

Ha. When my mom was still able to use her iPad, but in the first stages of Alzheimer’s, she was always carefully pass wording everything, and it always involved her favorite locations and her dog. Each spelled in unique ways with various caps, and numbers thrown in. It was a living heck figuring these out all the time when she still thought she was perfectly fine but clearly wasn’t.

Can I jump in to this question with one of my own?

My child has my old iPad, and after several years it’s acting a bit wonky, not connecting as well to the wifi, etc. One day it might die. If it does, I can’t afford a new one. How can I trust buying an used one, that it isn’t stolen? That it’s any good? Has anyone found a trick to buying used iPads? Just wondering.

OK, it appears that the jokesters have had their laugh, lets answer your query.

What you want is to reset the iPad to its factory defaults, i.e. blank and ready to be the equivalent of new from the store.

a) Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button (NOT the HOME button) until the red slider appears. Drag the slider to turn your device completely off.
b) After the device turns off, press and HOLD the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo. [NOTE: Do not release UNTIL you see this!]
===> If you see the battery charge warning, let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then start with step b) again.

If this does not work and you do not see the Apple Logo, then try the Force Restart; To force restart your device, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least ten seconds, until you see the Apple logo.

:)

I can only swear that it’s not my Ipad and that I am telling the complete truth.

I understood your story. Some are a bit slow and have to have everything spelled out for them. I wish you luck my FRiend

That only resets, you still have to enter a valid password.

Only workaround is to restore factory settings with a PC and iTunes.

The OP surely has to know someone with a PC and iTunes.

A hard reset usually fixes things when they get wonky. Same process for all models. I've bought used iPads on ebay. As long as the seller has a good rating, you should be ok. About the only issue with these is when they are purchased from a cell carrier and never fully paid for. Those units are blacklisted. Stick to wifi only units and you should be OK.

It was likely returned and resold or someone opened it and played around with it. The FF games are outstanding. I also highly recommend the AMC walking dead game “no mans land”. It plays like the old school xcom games with a bit of base management thrown in. It’s free to play. Star Wars uprising is also fun but a bit slow on progression.

Sorry, but if it’s a recent OS as of 2 years it’s a big problem. Apple will not help regardless for fear of theft. It’s essentially a brick.

What you need is a fairly heavy chunk of forged metal attached to the end of a long-ish wooden stick. While gripping the wooden stick at the end that does not have the fairly heavy chunk of forged metal on it, set the iPad on a strudy surface. Interface the fairly heavy chunk of forged metal with the iPad multiple times with as much vigor and force as you can muster, while avoiding any interface of the fairly heavy chunk of metal with your fingers. Then buy a new iPad.

I got a 6+,5S, and a 5 out of the Comal River this summer, all in cases and turned ON, the 6+ had a cracked screen, @ $100 to replace.

All were reported as lost/stolen, Insurance pair off, a week of Internet research splained it to me,

I threw them back into the River.

It taught me that there are Idiots that take there IPhones down a river.
