She stole all of her celebrity from Kevin Gilbert and didn’t give a ratsass about his death.

I saw Kevin Gilbert once upon a time back in the 1980s Eddie Money tour days, long before the Tuesday Music Club. Waaaay underrated; you're right about that part. I've often wondered if things might have turned out differently for him if he had been the one to replace Phil Collins as the front man for Genesis after Collins went solo. And it was Phil Collins' producer Hugh Padgham who backed Crows first attempt at a debut album; I wonder if there was some connection back in there somewhere.
Nor did she seem to be very vocal when Linda Ronstadt's career ended, aside from being one-fourth of the quartet that performed You're No Good when Ronstadt was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014. Oh, she was quite public and vocal with her galpal Ellen DeGeneres, on whose show Crow made her claim that her breast cancer had been caused by drinking water from plastic bottles.
My tongue-in-cheek reference connecting you to her was more based on her political anti-Bush/anti Wal-Mart/pro Obama political stances than her music. But come to think of it, she never has said who *Favorite Mistake* was about, just that it was someone who had cheated on her and then bailed. Lance Armstrong? Nah, the song released in '95, long before he was in her life. Clapton? Maybe, but she's said not. Or maybe Kevin Gilbert, for having upstaged her?
