President Trump and the 2017 State of the Union
The Dayton Daily News ^ | January 12, 2016 | Jay Bookman - The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Posted on 01/13/2016 1:30:15 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

The transcript of the 2017 State of the Union address, as delivered by President Donald Trump:

Thank you. Thank you. I have to say, nice building, this Capitol. Nice room. But too old-fashioned, don't you think? I do this all the time. I acquire these rundown old properties, I buy them cheap, I bring in my decorators, we fix it up. More mirrors, more gold trim, a nice statue of me ... we'll have it looking beautiful. Come back next year, you'll be amazed.

There's our new First Lady, Melania, up in the balcony. First supermodel in the White House. Amazing no one thought of it before. See that empty seat next to her? That's for Ted Cruz. Not here anymore. Nice guy. Smart guy. Everything I say, he agreed with me. Everything I say. So I said go back to Canada, Ted, where you belong.

So Ted, he's the first immigrant I deported. More to come, I promise you that. We have to do it. Ted can run for prime minister up there, he'll do great. Cold, but great.

See the other empty seat? Right here, behind me, next to Speaker Pelosi. (Can you believe the face on that one?) That's for my new vice president, Marco Rubio. He never showed up here when he was a senator, so I told him, why should you show up now? Stay home. Get yourself a nice glass of water, take off those high-heels, turn on the Home Shopping Network. Such low energy.....

[How many Supreme Court cases has Trump won?

I think Cruz is standing at 5 out of 9.]

That’s the lamest argument I have ever heard. That makes as much sense as asking how many bills Trump has passed in Congress.

Come back to us when you have something that sounds reasonably mature and intelligent.

Cruz saved E commerce when he worked at the FTC. How many businesses and how many jobs do you think that encompasses?

Probably not as many as Ross Perot or Mitt Romney.

I would say as one of the few true opponents of President Obama in the Senate, he has helped shut down the government briefly which is a huge encouragement to conservatives opposed to the growth and expansion of the Federal government.

The other nice thing about Cruz is that he is actually is conservative— unlike the Donald.

Donald supports tax increases, universal health care, and has a strong history of helping Democrats throughout his lifelong career of attention getting.

Does Jose Medellin think these arguments are lame and unintelligent?

I am curious about his because I am a not very smart conservative who supports Ted Cruz?

Can you enlighten me?

"We stopped the Gang of Eight bill. Ted Cruz led the fight against the establishment would be living under amnesty right now if Cruz had not succeeded." - Rush Limbaugh.

"It was that close to being passed... and I think I can say this with integrity. Without the vigorous opposition of Ted Cruz, this bill likely would have passed." - Sen. Jeff Session

Donald was a billionaire before his fathers death. What he inherited from his father was a strong work ethic and how to make a deal with the NYC trade unions
Read THE TRUMPS by Gwenda Blair. There is plenty of things for you to complain about in it (over 500 pages) but at least it will be documented not some liberal talking point

It’s lame because Trump was never a lawyer to prosecute/defend cases before the Supreme Court, nor did he have to have a case settled before them.
So of course that is something that Cruz did that Trump didn’t.

Let’s try this argument.... Cruz has never taken a run down and dilapidated building and turned it into a beautiful skyscraper.

My husband and I were talking about this last night. We figured it would be short...

The wall is ahead of schedule and under budget.
The vets are now on medicare and can get taken care of most anywhere.
etc etc.
At the end he could say “are you tired of winning yet?”

OK - I’ll play along :-)) was the TRUMP wearing a watch and what type of watch. One, people would assume to give the image of a very successful businessman and keep up that appearance. Or a watch better worn by a senator who wished to be President. An expensive, over priced time piece to help build an image of being a successful Senator. And why would he do that? - We’ve learned from history that all Senators are so successful!! With the exception of Bill’s Hill of course.

LOL -he who laughs last, laughs best :-)

In my mind Bookman was a library cop, is a library cop, and will always be a library cop.

There is a video of Trump testifying in front of congressional committee explaining to them why their bill was slowing down the economy and how to fix it

You should be able to.find it under: You tube Trump congressional testimony.

You are good at searching so I won’t insult you by doing it for you

What has Trump done to fulfill this oath? “I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

And before you say “he couldn’t, he was a private citizen!” think long and hard about all of your fellow FReepers who have defended the Constitution without ever being an elected official.

The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States; he may require the Opinion, in writing, of the principal Officer in each of the executive Departments, upon any Subject relating to the Duties of their respective Offices, and he shall have Power to grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offences against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment.

He shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur; and he shall nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the supreme Court, and all other Officers of the United States, whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by Law: but the Congress may by Law vest the Appointment of such inferior Officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the Courts of Law, or in the Heads of Departments.

The President shall have Power to fill up all Vacancies that may happen during the Recess of the Senate, by granting Commissions which shall expire at the End of their next Session.

Let me know which of those Constitutionally mandated tasks you think Mr. Trump is better suited for.

“I think Cruz is standing at 5 out of 9.”

How many Trump Tower’s has Ted built? How many golf courses, ice rinks, hotels, casinos has he built? How many popular TV programs has Cruz had, how many beauty pageants? How many books has Ted written (Trump is up to 16 books). How many clothing lines, vodka lines, ties lines, etc. has Cruz started? You see, two can play your game.
