Cruz Has Now Beaten Trump in a Majority of States Outside the South
The Weekly Standard ^ | APR 06, 2016 | JEFFREY H. ANDERSON

Posted on 04/06/2016 11:01:54 AM PDT by TexasCajun

With his win in Tuesday’s open primary in the blue state of Wisconsin, Ted Cruz has now beaten Donald Trump in 11 of 21 states that have been contested to date outside of the South. Cruz has now beaten Trump in three Midwestern states (Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota—with Cruz having finished second and Trump third in the latter), one Northeastern state (Maine), three Plains states (Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas), three Western Frontier states (Idaho, Utah, and Wyoming), and one state outside of the Lower 48 (Alaska).

The South is Trump country, and he is undefeated there, having posted 11 wins and 0 losses in states ranging from Arkansas and Louisiana to the west and Kentucky and Virginia to the north. Yet Trump has now posted a winning percentage of just .429 (with 9 wins and 12 losses) outside of the South. None of the remaining contests are in the South (unless one considers West Virginia to be part of the South, in which case Trump will likely soon be 12-0 in Southern states).

It is striking that Cruz won in Wisconsin despite John Kasich's continued presence in the race. While the Ohio governor is anything but a juggernaut, his presence helps divide the anti-Trump vote. Indeed, it is not clear what other purpose his candidacy is serving at this point.

Kasich's won-lost record is now 1-31. To put that into perspective, his winning percentage (.031) is exactly half of the historical winning percentage of #15 seeds versus #2 seeds in the NCAA Tournament. Outside of his home state of Ohio, Kasich is 0-31, matching the historical winning percentage for #16 seeds. No last-second shot is going to save Kasich.

New Yorkers know Donald Trump best.

In 2 weeks, we get their opinion of him.

New York (95 Delegates) is not a winner take all state.

So this means that Trump has still won in, what, 21 out of 31 states?

I thought in NY if he got over 50% it was a “winner takes all”?

“Cruz Has Now Beaten Trump in a Majority of States Outside the South”

But he’s lost every state in the south. And came in third in important swing states.

But if you draw a line hard enough, you can add up a number that gives Cruz some sort of.....thing?

And Al Gore won ALL the states, not counting those won by Bush.

One can't arbitrarily discard states where the result didn't fit the narrative and expect to be taken seriously.

“Correct me if I am wrong please. No snarky comments, no lies, just answer the questions I posed here.”

You aren’t wrong.

Your perplexity at this goofy headline is shared by any sane person.

They are just trying to toss BS into the air hard enough so that you cant see any of that pesky reality.

IF you have over the ceiling level in NY (over 50%) you win all at-large delegates. That is from realclearpolitics. (I don’t know what at-large means though.)

You didn’t pose any questions, just assertions. However, as a Cruz supporter, this article means nothing...it’s clickbait.

No. It is a type of winner take all.

Winner gets all 14 state delegates and the winner of each of the 27 congressional districts gets all three district delegates, for the total of 95.

Correct me if I am wrong please. No snarky comments, no lies, just answer the questions I posed here.

If you are wrong, it isn't by much. That said, I'm not worried about Cruz losing the south to HRC or Bernie Sanders in November. In 1976, Ford won most of the states that he lost to Reagan in (outside of the south, but that was local boy Jimmy Carter, and the D-R shift in the south had not yet happened). It was the states that he won against Reagan that wound up killing him when Carter won them in '76.

I believe that Trump can win, and win big, if he can maintain a minimum of composure (the news release from yesterday's results were NOT a good move). He's at his best when he can laugh at the process and be a bit above it, like he was briefly when he lost in Iowa.

Hillary Clinton depresses both minority and millenial votes, the Dem base. Ted Cruz energizes the conservative base. He does well in areas like the rural west, where big government anything is not welcome. He'll do fine here in the south. I don't see many independent men voting for Hillary Clinton.

Cruz' team can run a disciplined, on message campaign, and can take a punch or two and come back. I think we are looking at a map like 2004, only better, because of the weakness of the Dem candidate. If Trump gets the nomination, the map will look different, but he can win, and big.

Just saw Cruz answering press questions, more of the same, Trump attacks. Found it interesting that several questions regarding Hispanics, Cruz is aligning himself now as Hispanic, with no mention of Illegal Immigration.

Will we now see Cruz ignore Illegal Immigration?
