DEVORE >> An Orange County non-profit organization has adopted 20 of the 38 German shepherd-mix dogs that were discovered in an abandoned Highland home earlier this week.
German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County, an organization dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and re-homing purebred German Shepherds picked the dogs up from Devore Animal Shelter Friday morning.

Most of the dogs are in the 6-8 year old range. From what I see in the previous photos and videos there are a lot of purebreds.
Here's first one being saved: https://www.facebook.com/gsroc.org/photos/a.109191994514.116192.105289464514/10154141364839515/?type=3&theater
Prayers for the dogs and money for the rescue are needed.

I’m not young and active enough for one of these animals but for an active owner with a good understanding of these fine dogs, they are great. Properly trained, they are good with active kids and very protective. A smart dog.
At my age, a French BG is perfect. Smart as any dog but more laid back. Must have exercise but nothing near a German Shepard or similar.
One of the articles references the dogs being possibly mixed with chow chow due to black spots, but purebred GSD can have black spots on their tongue.
What is a French BG? I breed German Shepherds, but not the kind that is so intense you’d need to run them miles every day. However, there are definitely many like that and people need to be aware that the breed can be fairly active.
Our rescue has a few German shepherds that have black spots on their tongues. Sometimes backyard breeders kill the puppies because of it as it is not a desirable trait among GSDs.
Sorry, French Bull Dog. Nowhere the exercise need that your guys need. A good old person’s dog.
Our rescue brought back 21 dogs in total over the past two days. All of them were well fed, dirty, matted, friendly but undisciplined, and outwardly in good health.
They appear to be pure GSDs except for one chihuahua (also saved by our rescue). They may have been mistaken for mixes due to their unkempt condition.
They will go to the vet for checkups and spay/neuter after their cleanup.
I saw from the pic some were long coats and some appeared to have the panda coloration which may be why they were assumed to be mixes? Do they know why the breeder just left the dogs?
The owner was suffering from depression because of the death of his wife. It is possible he is in a mental health hospital. Does not appear to be a breeder just a hoarder.
None of the dogs saved by our rescue appear to be panda colored.
Here is the first one to be groomed, quite a difference before and after.
