I don’t need air conditioning, and neither do you
WAPO ^ | Aug. 18, 2016 | Karen Heller

It’s time to come out of the closet. Or, more precisely, the sweat lodge.

My family lives without air conditioning, except for one antique, semi-comatose window unit that “cools” the bedroom to approximately the same temperature as Dallas at dusk.

Our house in Philadelphia was built in the 1920s, when people were tough and resourceful. For most of the year, the house is cool and pleasant, as long as there isn’t a mash-up of continuously scorching days and epic humidity, when the air is putrid, stagnant and, if it were a color, would definitely be mustard.

Which would be this summer. Which, so far, is the fourth-hottest summer on record in the Washington area. Emphasis on so far. NASA reports that July was the Earth’s hottest in recorded history. Cheer up, people say to those of us without air conditioning, September’s coming. Except people forget that most of September is still summer.

Smug Liberal Alert with a smattering of global warming hysteria.

It's been pushing triple digits where I live the past few weeks.

The A/C feels fine!

How many elderly and ill would die without air conditioning?

So much for the liberals' claim to value the lives of the powerless. This sounds like plain old fashioned Spencerian social Darwinism.

Here here, I have not had an air conditioner 20 years, but then I live about 1/2 mile from the So Cal coast, that helps, it was a blistering 80 degrees earlier this week but we muddled through.

You might want to tell that to the survivors of the 3,770 people who died of hot weather from 1986 through 2015. I'm sure that will make them feel much better.

I remember back in the 2003 heatwave you had thousands of people mainly elderly dying in Europe all because they didn’t have air conditioning in the old folk homes. They didn’t believe in it. They didn’t want to cause “global warming” and as a bonus they believed a few useless eaters dying is good for the planet.

One week ago it was 104F in north central Texas. If some moron commie doesn’t want to use it’s HVAC when it is cold or hot outside that is the nut job’s concern. But do not even think for a second I am turning mine off - at least until autumn really kicks in and we have low humidity and mild temperatures when I open up all the windows!

I guess I could use open windows and fans, but the cost of removing black mold would be astronomical. I’m sitting typing this in A/C and the wife is bathing in our 88 degree pool.

That Heller girl must be Amish...That’s the only reason I can think of for someone NOT to have an air conditioner if they can afford one (who can’t?)

To the WaPo author:

Listen, you holier-than-thou jerk. If you think that not having AC is a good thing, then stop using it, but don’t jam your global warming religion down the rest of our throats. There are many, many more things wrong with the world than AC, and most of the are caused by smug jerks like yourself.

If you really believed that CO2 is a serious environmental danger, you would cease your own production of it.

(Note: my response is massively self-censored)

Good for you, Karen. Just stay in your sweat box. No one cares. We will enjoy comfort of AC, thank you very much.

I always think that when people attack the notion of AC, it’s an indirect attack on Texas. Because they think if it wasn’t for AC, then Texas never would have developed as it has, and that makes them jealous.

Don't bother liberals with the amount of people dying from heat deaths, people are what's wrong with the planet.

Now the snowy plover or dart snail, that's another matter.
