KISS is on my list of favorites.

Hey, my childhood was no bed of roses, either, but that doesn’t entitle me to disrespect the National Anthem.
KISS is a holdover from the late 70s. I maybe like one or two of their songs. However Poison and I believe RATT were 80’s white hair bands. The reason I say this is because the 80’s was a deeply patriotic time for this country even if one of the most famous songs from the era “Born in the USA” by a traitorous Springsteen later revealed the tru e meaning behind the patriotic song. I grew liking Springsteen, I threw out all that I owned after learning the truth about him and what he really felt of America. Regan made this country great by instilling a deep patriotic feeling into all of America - its music, its businesses and the hearts and souls of its citizens. Regan wasn’t infallible but he loved this country and Clinton with no economic policy in the 90’s except to raise the taxes caused the recession. It was said Clinton had a surplus when George Bush Jr took over. 6 months into the Bush’s first term the surplus disappeared as fast as Enron did because the Clinton Administration did the books just like Enron had done.
The 80’s were great and led to the boom of the 90’s but the evolution of the internet is the mainstay as to why the mid to late 90’s did so well. The Y2K issue busted before New Year’s on 2000. It is commonly referred to as the dot com bubble.

I am baffled by that. He certainly meant disrespect. His audiences unanimously inferred disrespect. At the time, no other take would have been even marginally credible.
I always thought it was a rather creative version. Being patriotic I heard it as such, regardless of his actual intent.
