Loretta Young comes across pretty well here, which is good since she has long been known as a Hollywood conservative. Raped, refused an abortion, made things okay for herself and her baby. It would have been better to get justice for the rape, but almost an impossible proposition at the time.
No kidding here. I still have several Confidental magazines from the 40’s and 50’s. None from the 30’s and I don’t remember if there’s any from the early 60’s.
The other magazine is called “Photoplay”
It’s along the same lines.

Lorette Young had other affairs with married men, Spencer Tracy to name one. If she was raped by Gable why did she agree to star in another movie with him 15 years later?
There was a movie “Hollywoodland” about the death of George Reeves. One of the characters was Toni Mannix. I wonder if she was the wife of the guy in this story.
It was a pretty good movie but did not claim to be true. Still it had a scenario in which Reeves was murdered and the crime covered up.
That sounds more believable after reading this article.
What a hot mess LA was back then, but the films didn't suffer. Makes you wonder, with all the personal turmoil, did it enhance the artistic endeavor....

Eddie Mannix is also a character (played by Josh Brolin) in Hail, Caesar.
It's a made-up story, but some of the subplots may be based on real-life.
Thanks, that is the general impression I got of the movie but did not really know.
They had some of the old Superman shows on one of the nostalgia networks and I enjoyed seeing them again. I got the impression that they were interesting and well written with unusually bad special effects even by 1950s standards.
Time to rewatch LA Confidential starring Russell Crowe as a crooked cop in Hollywood.

I read one version of the Loretta Young “adoption” story wherein her daughter was told by a young man, the daughter’s peer in age iirc, that “Everyone” in Hollywood knew Clark Gable was her father. (I probably even read it here on a FR thread.)
Of course Ms. Young did the right thing by choosing life for her child (I really hate the idea that Clark Gable is a rapist and I’ve never heard that before so I’ll just leave it aside at this time) and I CANNOT blame her for wanting to raise the child herself, in fact I admire her for all she went through. It’s the kind of thing I think I might do myself, in fact. But I think it did cause her daughter emotional pain, although it is true that Loretta Young sure isn’t the first nor the last parent to do that.
