Amen to both.
The confirmation process for Chief Justice is the same as a confirmation for any Justice. Usual practice is to use the Newly appointed Justice for the Chief Justice to avoid a separate confirmation process. He is nominated to be the Chief Chief Justice.

I read once that when someone knocks on the door when all the justices are in a conference room, the newest Justice is the one who has to answer it.
