We’re Not in a Civil War, but We Are Drifting Toward Divorce
The National Review ^ | June 8, 2017 | David French

At an increasing rate, Americans separate themselves into culturally and ideologically homogeneous enclaves.

Last week there were two telling incidents — one small, the other more consequential — that spoke volumes about the state of our national life. Let’s start small. Over in Seattle, in the midst of a debate over juvenile justice, a city-council member invoked his “Republican friends” as a symbol of the broad-based agreement that incarceration policies need to change. One of his colleagues, Kshama Sawant, snapped back with the proud declaration that she didn’t have any Republican friends. The crowd cheered.

Sure, it’s but one small incident, but consider something bigger. The state of California is in the process of taking a series of political steps that are not only cementing its status as a progressive enclave, it’s stumbling toward its own foreign policy. After Donald Trump withdrew America from the Paris climate agreement, California governor Jerry Brown rushed to fill the void. California is touting its collaborations with China to combat global warming. Here’s Brown, in reporting by the Sacramento Bee:

“It is a little bold to talk about the China–California partnership as though we were a separate nation, but we are a separate nation,” Brown said of the state, with nearly 40 million residents and the world’s sixth-largest economy. “We’re a state of mind. I include Silicon Valley, I include the environmental activism, the biotech industry, agriculture. This is a place of great investment in innovation.”

Indeed, California has such a different view of the relationship between citizen and state, it’s virtually seceding from the Constitution, overriding the First Amendment time and again for the sake of “social justice.” And now its legislature is even taking the first steps to implement a $400 billion single-payer health plan....

A strategic nuking of NY city, DC, and LA, and we’d never have another democrat president.

Just sayin’

How disgusting that a state so beautiful and with so much coastline is wasted on oxygen thieves so stupid and so morally bankrupt. I lived there for decades but wouldn’t do it now.

There no longer exists the reasonable social consensus in the United States that made the American nation possible and prosperous. A significant percentage of the population has embrace neo pagan epicurean decadence. Their values as Democrats do not include patriotism or love of country. They consider themselves nihilistic multiculturalists and globalists. They cannot be trusted in any matter of importance.

Practically every state and local government in the U.S plus the schools are insulated bubbles of seething hatred for anyone who is not a leftist. I never knew how bad until I observed the behavior of some government employees that I know. I've never seen anything like it.

Without CA Trump would have won the popular vote. Without CA we would be significantly more free. CA hasn’t though of itself as honestly part of America for quite some time and it isn’t.

You want to kill a lot of teenagers to get back to the exact same place we are at now. Real smart.

I'm a born and raised Californian. Lived there for almost half a century, but the only way I'd go back now, is if the Left lost a civil war to the Right.

I’m reading terrific book of fiction that takes place in the near future where the U.S. splits into a socialist hell-hole comprising the west coast and NorthEast, where political correctness runs rampant, and the rest of the country which remains pro-capitalist and conservative.

Highly recommended. Author is Kurt Schlitcer.

I’m okay with divorce. In fact, the idea of that permanent legal separation from the Ctrl-Left is a breath of fresh air. The problem is that not all couples with irreconcilable differences stop at a mere divorce.

http://www.wfmz.com/news/lehigh-valley/coroner-identifies-couple-in-murder-suicide-1/531755494 WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. - A man and woman are dead after what sources are calling a murder-suicide. The Lehigh County coroner identified the victims late Wednesday night as 35-year-old Kelsy Thomson and 41-year-old Brian Thomson.

http://www.nbc-2.com/story/35578164/couple-found-shot-to-death-in-north-naples-mansion Collier deputies say two people found dead inside a gated North Naples community were victims of a murder-suicide.

https://www.usnews.com/news/best-states/arizona/articles/2017-05-30/couple-found-dead-inside-scottsdale-home-in-murder-suicide The Scottsdale Police Department says evidence shows that 67-year-old Mark Gustafson shot his wife, 72-year-old Nancy Metz, as she was sleeping and then turned the gun on himself.

Those of us who believe in the Constitution, the rule of law, and personal freedom have irreconcilable differences with the other side and their belief that we are their slaves with an obligation to support them in the style to which they would like to be accustomed. I want our union severed, but I don’t take it for granted that they will simply let their only productive means of support walk out the door.
