It’s the only naval base, I’m aware of that provides a certain training for ship crews. It’s one of the must have trainings before warships are ready for deployment typically after yard evolutions.

I do not know what to do about GTMO but by no means should GTMO be abandoned. I spent the summer of ‘63 there and know that it is the hottest, most humid place with stagnant air on the planet but abandoning GTMO would be a win for Cuba.
