Officials at Cambridge Public Schools are distancing the district from a letter penned by a school librarian rejecting books donated by first lady Melania Trump.
In the blog post, published Tuesday on the Horn Book, Liz Phipps Soeiro, a library media specialist at the district’s Cambridgeport School, began by thanking the first lady for the 10 Dr. Seuss books sent to her school “for its high standards of excellence.” But she went on to explain why they would not be keeping the gifted titles.
“Cities like Philadelphia, Chicago, and Detroit are suffering through expansion, privatization, and school ‘choice’ with no interest in outcomes of children, their families, their teachers, and their schools,” she wrote. “Are those kids any less deserving of books simply because of circumstances beyond their control? Why not go out of your way to gift books to underfunded and underprivileged communities that continue to be marginalized and maligned by policies put in place by Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos?”
The school district said in a statement Thursday that while it supports its employees right to voice their personal opinions, Phipps Soeiro’s letter wasn’t an official school position.
“The opinions expressed in the Horn Book editorial were those of the writer, and not a statement on behalf of Cambridge Public Schools,” the district said. “This was not a formal acceptance or rejection of donated books, but a statement of opinion on the meaning of the donation.”
In the post, the elementary school librarian also called the choice of Dr. Seuss a “tired and worn ambassador for children’s literature,” adding that the author’s illustrations are “steeped in racist propaganda, caricatures, and harmful stereotypes.”(continued)

Well, of course she should be able to express her opinion,even on her employer’s time. Isn’t that what the nfl has been saying? How dare they not publicly support her every word???
The library at the school already has Dr Seuss books on its shelves so her excuses about them being cliche is bogus.
It’s not possible to coexist peacefully with these people.

A true story.
I know a lovely woman in Hong Kong. Her husband, a PLA officer left her when their child was a daughter, not a son. She was severely depressed over this and went to the library at the University of Beijing where she was a graduate student. In the reference room, she found a Bible on the shelf and started to read it. She became a Christian. She evangelized her parents who quit their government jobs and resigned from the party to found a legal church in their neighborhood.
Now for the weird part: The Bible was part of a donation of books made to the University of Beijing by Bill Clinton who was making donations to use up excess campaign funds for tax purposes. Bill Clinton is indirectly responsible for the creation of an indigenous church planter team in the PRC. He is also, as far as I know the only US president who has done something (putting a Bible in a university library)that led to the salvation of anyone.
The point here is that if librarians who are Communist party members in the PRC will put a Bible on the shelf from an American President then this librarian could take books from Melania Trump.
Translation: We are guilty as hell and we are sorry for this leftist buffoon as our librarian but don’t want to admit it.

Betsy DeVos should show up at the school library unannounced and offer to pick up the books in person from this Commie snob.
It is a long time since I read a Seuss book but I mostly recall the illustrations as being of fictional creatures.
Can a fictional creature even have a race?
Certainly Horton the elephant could not be a racist illustration.
She just wants her name in the news, she would have sent back anything that was sent to her, hillary supporter I am willing to wager

I was totally shocked to read of the accusation that books by Dr. Seuss were racist propaganda knowing that President Obama and his First Lady advocated for the books.
This librarian owes President and Mrs. Obama an apology for her slur against the former First Couple.
I denounce this librarian in the strongest possible terms.
