Goodbye Columbus Day

Just a couple of last thoughts on the Left’s attempt to deep-six Columbus Day because he was a white imperialist pig whose sole intent in taking to the high seas was to find some poor indigenous peoples to oppress. Because that’s just what white guys do.

As I mentioned yesterday, the Salt Lake City Council unanimously decided to join the trendy observance of Indigenous Peoples Day on the second Monday of October, the same day as Columbus Day. Don’t worry, it won’t replace Columbus Day, which is a federal holiday, although they would if they could. Instead it will be a “parallel” holiday celebrated on the same day. That way you can you decide whether you want to be one of the enlightened, tolerant, sensitive, cognoscenti celebrating the First Peoples – or a brain dead cretin celebrating a genocidal white supremacist.

The Salt Lake City Council decided to take action because a bill  proposed in the State legislature last year by Sen. Jim Dabakis was defeated. At the time, Dabakis said he was crafting the legislation to honor the people who were in Utah before the pioneers, rather than Christopher Columbus.

“It’s kind of an old, haggering idea that Christopher Columbus did something,” Dabakis said. “He was the first white guy to arrive, he didn’t know where he was going, he ended up in a place he thought he wasn’t. He really has contributed nothing to civilization.”

Frankly, that sounds more like a Democrat to me - not the least bit original and completely wrong.

And I’m still confused: does the Left believe in open borders or not?

Now this is priceless. Here’s page two:

“The Mormons’ interaction with Native Americans remained friendly until they clashed over limited resources. [In the Salt Lake Basin] Young had purposely selected the arid Great Basin as the Latter-day Saints’ new home due to its ruggedness. He wanted church members to grow closer as they struggled to build Zion, and he wanted outsiders to pass by on their way to greener locations. But Young’s plan failed to take into consideration that Native Americans already were using the Great Basin’s resources to capacity.

As Mormons poured into Salt Lake City, settlers appropriated rivers, streams, and springs. They fenced off productive land and used up raw materials such as pine-nut bearing trees. This caused no immediate conflict, but upon discovering their loss, members of the local Ute tribe demanded access to their resources and, when denied, simply did what they had long done and took what had been theirs.

As the Mormon population grew, tensions escalated. Infertile soil and a lack of water made it impossible to quickly create dense, sedentary settlements, so Young sent newcomers farther from Salt Lake City. Unwilling to change plans, he advised against provoking the Native Americans, but soon allowed ruthless punishment of any Indian caught stealing or harming a settler or his property.

In a short time, church leaders authorized attacking American Indians who refused to give up their resources without a fight. Church leaders argued that Native Americans who resisted were actually rejecting Christ’s message and, by refusing, justified retribution.”*

Cannibalism Day, to celebrate the practices of many “noble” savages.

Michael Savage was vocal about this nonsense yesterday. He said it is just an extension of those who want to tare America down. He pointed out if the continent had remained it its original state, everyone here today would be living in huts and savaging each other just like they were doing before being “discovered”.

I guess if they don’t like Italians, I guess next up will be Amerigo Vespucci from which America is derived.

See Jihad Watch today. Columbus’ trip was because m*slims blocked the route, and civilized people needed a safe route to India.

Next will be Washington and Lincoln’s birthdays.

But don’t mention MLK Jr’s birthday as that would be racist.

Columbus Day is gone only if you want it gone. For me it is and will remain Columbus Day. NOBODY can change it in MY mind. Saying the new name is about the same as voting Democrat.

Every person that speaks SPANISH while complaining about Columbus doesn’t understand irony.

Not the Mormons' fault. Columbus made them do it.

We did NOT observe a holiday yesterday! I had medical appointments! PHOOEY!

Columbus actually was a Byzantine Greek from Chios! Genoa ruled Chios, so that’s the connection with Genoa. But if Italian Americans want to support Columbus Day and oppose the “resistance”, that’s all right with me!!!!

Human history is thousands of chess games being played over several centuries. Columbus, through great risk and uncertain fate, moved one pawn on one board. How could he possibly foresee how the board might play out centuries later? America, freedom, hope, and opportunity sprung from his brave first move — that is what we honor one day of each year.

But, killing progressive heroes and possibly the most progressive nation in human history is what the new Progressives are all about.

Many years ago a black muslim came to a class where I was a student teacher. He told the kids that “English was a slave-owner’s language, unlike Spanish and Arabic.”

“WANTED FOR THE DESTRUCTION OF A CULTURE”

Isn’t that what the left is trying to do to OUR Western, American, Christian, Culture?
